Yaaaaayyyyy!!!!!!!
Another convert to Cobra - The Combined powers of persuasion of Jon & Andy Strike again!!! Flopshot has also helped turn somebody towards the light.

Come on Cobra - Where's our bloody freebies or commission???

As for your wedges, vokeys are ace.
As for your putter, I have an odyssey 2-ball white-hot and would not change it. I know where they can be obtained for £69.99 brand new.

Anyone reading these posts would be forgiven for thinking that you can buy a good game if you just get the right equipment. I always thought (as Lee Trevino once said) "it's the Indian, not the arrows"...

I have previously mentioned the "all the gear but no idea" brigade.

Played on a corporate day with a guy who had just spend £2k at AG including Titleist blades. His golfing experience was a 50yd per hole council pitch & putt.

Wanted to look the biz but couldn't play for [****].

I do however think that having gear which makes you feel good can help you play better. I always played better with my own custom pool cue than any other. The brain is a complex thing.

The reason I plug Cobra is because I use and rate their equipment.

Also I don't for a minute think that the baragin basement equipment is any good, look at the Donnay/Dunlop crap at sportsworld, I have heard that if you took 2 identical clubs to the range they would feel completely different as they are that bad!

I always like to get something new just around the start of a new season should it be a new bag, trolley, shoes or anything to do with golf, I just like something new. I wouldn't go as far as to change my clubs, but just something new that maybe someone else hasn't got.

Sod the wedges Parmo, please.

It's a travesty how bad these clubs are used in average players hands. Learn to use you PW and SW to best effect and spend the money on either a friendly utility or ace putter.

Sorry mate, not picking on you, but just despairing about all the s*** I see round the greens with clubs that are only worth the money if you have great skill.

If you want an approach or lob wedges, buy one but the high spin/pro stuff is actually not for mid players.

At the end of the day mate the geezer wants to spend a bit off wonga so were just pointing him in the right direction.

He might aswell spend it on some quality .

And real golfer. I dont see there any problem in the guy buying vokeys he might not get the full benefit as a better golfer would, but its not gonna hinder him surely?!

Well, yes, fair point....but I see a lot of players desperately trying to learn the skill to use high spin wedges to the best advantage. What I think (and I don't expect anyone to agree) is that a good golfer knows when to use his 8/9 iron PW or SW around the greens to aquire more or less roll, more or less height, allowing the natural run to works it's way up to the hole side.
If you've splashed out on a tasty wedge and make that your bread and butter club, you might not be learning all the shots that make the short game so much part of the skill of golf. All I see is guys pulling out their spin-milled lobs, trying to land the ball on a sixpence and complaining when the ball bites and leaves them 5 ft short. The best short game players at my club chip/pitch with a variety of things and can come up with some magic from all sorts of situations.

Don't remember Seve or Ollie flying it all the way to the flag every time.

I only use my 58 if I have to go over a bunker to a tight lie. There are way too many golfers (mainly kids) who flop shot every thing. This is silly. Variety is the spice of life etc....

I think replacing the sand wedge that came 'with the set' is a good idea if game improvement clubs are involved. Mate of mine has latest Cally BBs and god knows how he gets out of bunkers with the SW that matches the set, I couldn't.

That's sad.

murph, dave, my instructor agrees with you, he's got me trying alternative approaches to blind bombing. it's surprising what can happen when intentionally using a familiar club in a different way.

Thanks for the advice all. I am not trying to buy my game at all, the best part of my game is around the greens and always has been, in fact I faced a lop the other week, the green was about chest height from me with a deep bunker right in front so about 10 yards to the hole, I relaxed and played the most perfect shot that landed 5 inches from the hole and rolled in!!! I played that with a cheap Hippo OS4 SW.

Next Item on the list is a putter.
