The national press would have us think that the leading Supermarkets are still Tesco's & J Sainsbury, but certainly amoungst my work mates we certainly don't as a group use either Tesco, or J Sainsbury.

So seeing as this is a Forum that covers the entire UK & beyond. Where does everyone do their food-shop..?

I've covered Most except Safeway which to all intents & purposes has been soaked up by others in general.

to be honest i use
waitrose
lidl
tesco
asda
sainsbury

all for separate reasons

i would shop in lidl more if it was more accessable i normally buy the formil washing liquid as its proper cheap and just as good as persil, ariel etc etc, also they sell pepsi for like 72p for 2l bottles, and lidls icecream and vegetables and chocolate are the best.
tesco is my local corner shop tho it is silly expensive now...ie a pack of jammie dodgers were 56p now theyre 92p so i try avoid the place but normally get sent up there by the mrs for sweeties and chocolate
waitrose is my local supermarket but its expensive and a small shop....

.. so i go to sainsburys instead...

...but recently i have been going to asda for bigger shops as it definately beats the others for price barring lidls which is a mission to get to! etc

Usually use Sainsbury's as it is the closest to home but also regularly split the shopping between Aldi and Netto. If they were more accessable for HID to get to* then I would definately use Aldi/Netto more regularly.

*She picks child up from school and meets me there.

Asda is winning! I go to Sainsburys the most, but there are lots of products in Morrisons and Asda I prefer.

I went to Lidl last week.....(?).....left with some ground coffee, some erasers, a pack of DVD+R and some handwash....that's all I could find that I liked the look of. They have a great TAT section.....

Used to shop at Tesco but find the quality better at Morrisons and as there is one near my office it makes sense.

If I need clothes and other such things then I go to Asda

I go to Sainsbury's for my main shop and a small Tesco (five minute drive) for regular basics like milk and bread. I use t work for IRI Infoscan (you may see IRI come up in the adverts when people are surveyed) and one of my jobs was to look at the weekly promotions in the national (English and Scottish) and put them onto the database so they could be downloaded by the field workers onto their scanners.

Experience has told me that what you save in one hand from Asda you lose to Tesco/Sainsbury's etc on other things. In other words although some products do vary in the great scheme of things over time things tend to balance themselves out and to be honest life is too short to spend wondering if I should go to Asda or Morrisons this week because shampoo is 50p cheaper

I tend to use Asda Mainly although recently I have been using Morrisons and Aldi.

TBQH I cant tell the difference in some of ALDI products to those from ASDA or Morrisons, and it is a hell of a lot cheaper.

a lot of peple are pu toff aldi and lidl cos they dont sell familiar brands,,,, i wouldnt let this bother you most of their stuff is quality!

I think Tescos gets the most from us but we use most of them but as little as possible. Fresh veg/eggs/ham/milk and other stuff we get locally, its so much better seeing the veg tipped off a tractor with the mud still on the produce 50p for decent sized swedes, 50p for a bunch of spring onions 3 times the size of the ones for a quid in some of those stores, dozen eggs £1.60, sack of spuds £4.00. Brilliant shopping that way and just as convenient as any asda store etc, well it is to us.You can even get washing powder there! heh heh. Seriously though, for everything else its usually tescos.

Tesco almost exclusively.

Our Sainsbury's is a pit of a place that was small in 1975 when it opened and hasn't changed since ( I've seen Tesco Express thatare bigger!), our Morrison's is in the middle of a huge building site at the moment, nearest Asda is 30 minutes away and we don't have a Waitrose.

I think Sainsbuys offers the best blend of quality produce and decent home ware etc, with a full range of more expensive to basic goods. It is nearest to me as well so I shop here.

Waitrose has the best quality food overall, and Asda is great for buying brands at a budget so I also go to these.

I personally just don't like Tecos though- I don't know why!

Tesco for me / us. Mostly because its less than 1/2 mile from us, and the nearest other supermarket is 14 miles.

If out and about we do often go to Waitrose, but its 90% of the time at Tesco.

Forgot to mention that one of the reasons I don't shop at Sainsbury's is that I used to work in the High Wycombe shop and I know what went on behind the scenes. If you knew what I knew you'd never buy fresh meat from them again! :(

Tesco, as its close to the wife’s PT job.

We buy bread in local shop - Bread in Tesco can be £1.10 for a loaf, local shop is £0.79
Milk - Local shop £0.99 in lieu of £1.29 in Tesco(we use approx 2L per day - going to local shop makes jnr sleepy and saves £5 a week)
Spuds- Local market (Good quality, the type I like and £6 per 25 kg beet that Tesco)
Veg - local market (about 60% of Tesco cost)
Meat - local butcher (bit more expensive but its from a trusted butcher)
Fish - local market. (more exotic varieties and very fresh)

I do try to support local trade and produce, the stuff is always better quality when bought local, but it may not be presented as well.

Since losing my job we have really cut back on food costs and I can bash together some really great food for now't much as I have the time. Lasagne, stews and curries are my specialities. Currently I am waiting on my pizza base rising before I knock it back and make 2 great pizza's for about £2 rather than the local pizza shop for £12.
As part of the cost saving I make mist items as it costs about the same as the supermarkets value ranges but I use quality ingredients rather than rubbish.
