What's your opinion

Doesn't make a jot of difference to me. If it helped me play better I'd be happy to put "Ball Hitty Stick" or "Big Jessie" clubs in my bag, I'd even consider a set of 90210's.

Frankly it makes little difference. Brand name is going to be the main thing people go on. Would you happily play with the new NZ9 range?

I bought my Razr X irons for one reason. I went to a fitting and they were what I hit the best with.

Compare the following (wish I could justify forged).

One's a name, ones a number. Both forged irons and I am sure that if anyone was handed a set of either they wouldn't say no.

If you were to ignore the pedigree and go purely on the look. Which would you say looks like it is trying to shout loudest?

I kind of get this.

Cobras new driver is Long Tom, named after a first world war howitzer. Stupid name for a golf club.

I prefer numbers and letters too. Seems simpler. Afterall, the club head is only so big, and too much writing on it looks messy.

Guess they copied the Titleist 'Howitzer' with that one then!

I doubt many get pulled in by the names a lot of which have been associated with the game for years now. Sure there were plenty from over the years too.

I do prefer a descrete club head but the name can be a small factor in that. Titleist generally are loud and colourful even though the name is short and sweet the pics above are a good example.

My question was… ((what do you think etc.etc…Just thought I would ask.. ))

Thank you all, who posted an adult reply.. Haven’t counted the for’s or against looks about even but that does not matter. As I said. Just thought I would ask…I was curious.

This is some of what I get in return…

First See.. Clive.W ..to which I replied “ But you are entitled to your view.. Which we still don't have. ?

“so I get,, from HomerJsimpson. ((thought you'd posted adieu on the OOB forum and yet here you are back again and picking faults with other people posting. Whether he makes a point or not his post is a credible as anyones. ))) Wow...…Certainly the pseudonym seems to match the person…… To which my reply is.... I think you have some sort of problem.. The question “ I “ posted asked for peoples point of view. It’s a forum remember…

HawkeyeMS… says… (( It's a rather odd thing to concern yourself with if you ask me , ))
I didn’t ask you that….I asked people for their views on the names game, which many people seem able to do on both sides of the camp without rude comments…

And to illustrate my point. Which is part of the function of a Forum I’m sure.

Made you think of it now…Thank you for your views non the less.

GB72 Thank you for your balanced opinion of the question…

DarthVega…Not sure this is relevant however…. I drive a Mercedes Benz.
Mercedes… named after the Daughter of the Karl Benz one of the originators of the company Daimler/Benz.

So there we go moderators not everyone is as nice as me…

My point justagolfer, which I didnt elaborate on as I thought it was self explanatory, was its all about marketing! Your merc no doubt has numbers and letters and maybe Kompressor in the name to differentiate and sell/market different models to different target groups and incomes.

The car name analogy is quite good in this case. Titleist would consider itself a top-end brand for those in the know, and goes for letters and numbers that say "we're above all this silly name stuff" rather like Merc, BMW, Audi, while Taylormade is more populist and goes for catchy names like Ford would.

I'm sure there's a load of contradictions to my half-baked theory, which I look forward to having pointed out to me :p

Yes... DarthVega..I thought I had made that point also. ...No I don't have Kompressor.
I have BlueEfficiency..Doing my bit for the planet...Nice to hear you point of view though.

Quite right too Monty :D.

BMW's have Alpina styling, Merc have Brabus etc etc. Not to mention A-Class, B-class, C-Class etc.

Look at a more extreme example in Ferrari they all have numbers 612,430,458 etc but they have a habbit of adding things like "Italia" Scudderia" and "Scalletti" to name a few. Even Porsche, 911,912,959.... Then they come out with "Carrera", "Boxter" and "Cayanne"

They presumably do it to appeal to footballers :D

As for Ford. Remember th XR seris (3i 2i)?

Hi Monty .... I think like GB72, you have got it in one...It's what I would expect from an articulate mind.. I'm not saying the fancy names are wrong for everyone. Each to his own..

I wish I was as articulate, intelligent and interesting as you just a golfer.

I was thinking you must be quite snobby, and then I read:

"I drive a Mercedes Benz"

Even snobby Merc drivers refer to is as a 'Merc' or 'Mercedes' - you're a Male version of Hyacinth Bucket!

great example. whilst the name might be less flashy, just have a look at all the crap listed on the club .... Dual Cavity .. Tungsten Nickel. why bother with all the that ON the the club, do you really need reminding of why you bought them??

Anyway for me I would any name and couldn't care less. Can;t really see the point in getting worried about the name it has.

Whee.....Ahhhhhhhhh.....It depends what you mean by “snobby “ If you mean. I speak the Queens English, have respect for others, including their opinion ( even if I don’t agree. ) Try my best to exercise good manners, even in the face of adversity, and have a private registration on my MERCEDES BENZ. Yes I‘m a snob, and what’s worse. I make no apology for it.

But we did the snobby bit last week. So unless you have something interesting to say shall we move on?

Actually, justagolfer, i think you're very rude. I think you bait others into a reaction, and then call foul play.

I hope your first tee shot at the weekend flies out of bounds. Other than that, I have nothing else of interest to note.
