I was thinking about this last night, and I was thinking about how poor my driving is, and how my 3h is the most consistant club I carry.

Then I pondered putting. My putting is still poor, even though I am 100% more comfortable with my current putter than I was with the old stick.

But then it hit me like a bolt from above.

I've had two really quite good rounds this year.

And I've had two rounds when I've played with guys that had a GPS thingy.

So even for someone with my handicap, I have to say that taking the doubt out of distance calculation leads to a more confidant strike, and therefore, a more consistant strike.

I used to think that thet were just a minor aid to help with those few extra shots for the better players. But seeing the help they can give to me, I have come to the conclusion that...

A decent GPS just has to be the best tool in the bag.

Does anyone disagree ?

A decent gps is a great tool but I wouldn't say it's the best in my bag. My steel hammer is the best tool, helps fix my electric trolley that is struggling with structural integrity these days!!! :p

I agree 100%. Knowing the distances leads to a better shot. It's not always on target (the perils of playing off 18 :D) but I would say that of my approach shots into the green, 75-80% of them are pin high since I've had the help of a GPS device. It's especially helpful when playing new courses.

Other than that, it would be my trusty 7 iron.

at this moment in time, Vokey 52* wedge. or Burner 09 Driver. id almost go as far to say their a pair, as with them i can drive and wedge alot of par 4's around my current track.

Rather like having a hammer with no handle, their a pair.

I carry a spatula for clearing the mud from my front trolley wheel.

It is a toss up between the spatula, or my bottle opener.

GPS a poor third.

I think the GPS makers ought to sell "add-on" software patches to liven up the whole experience. Imagine the fun you could have if it flashed up "<where the hell are you!>?" every time you were on the wrong fairway.....or it flashed up "don't thin it into the bunker on this par 5" 300 out. It could also have a setting where you input your distances and it suggest a club. It could say "you've got 150, take a 7 irons, unless you play with Ping clubs, in which case better go with a rescue!"

:D That would be awesome.

In all seriousness though. SkyDroid are developing their GPS App to include the "club recommendation" feature. Not really sure how useful it is as you know what club you'll need if you're 150 yards out, in the rough with the wind in your face.

Great thread. Haven't laughed so much for a while. Mine? Currently my pitch repairer. With the greens so receptive at the moment I'm having to repair loads that are left on the greens, the lazy b*&%^&ds. Just wish some of were mine once in a while.

Why not carry a foghorn, you can then put your opponents off while on the backswing just like the scene in 'Jackass'. Quality scene!
