What's my chances then ?

Well, that was all fun...

Due to another cock-up, we nearly didn't get on the course. A big charity do on meant the course was full. Had to get change in about 30 seconds and rush down to the 8th to slot into a gap in the field (our 8th is an official starting point)

My first shot of the match I lashed into a bush & lost. Ended up losing the hole. Next tee shot - OOB and next shot not much better. 2 played 2 down. Managed to steady things thereafter and managed to be 2 up by the turn. Got to 4 up, 5 to play then started to hack like a duffer. He pulled back to 2 down 2 to play and we halved 17. Won 2&1. Yipeee... chuffed to bits.

Gawd this matchplay stuff is scary - and fun.

Well done mate and glad you enjoyed the challenge that is matchplay. 8th and 9th are not the easiest holes to start on at your gaff.

Gaff is Dulwich & Sydenham.

8th is a pig to start on - SI 1. Not too bad if you've got your eye in and rhythm going -but not to start.

Next round I think I've got another 14H/C to play against. But having got one round of matchplay under the belt, the next might not be quite so scary whilst on the first tee.

Great format though - great format.

I've entered the matchplay event this year for the first time, I play off 25 & got drawn against a 13 handicapper so I'm not too optimistic but it's good to try out these things, as long as I put in a decent effort I will be happy enough just to get the experience.

I was out last night playing with a 4 handicapper & a 13 handicapper, just playing with 2 people who I didn't know & who're better players then me put me under pressure but by the end of the night I had played alright, hit some very good shots.

Thing I noticed most is their speed of play, because they were mostly further & straighter than me they had less shots to play therefore I felt under pressure to speed up, they never said anything, it's just the way I felt. Need to stop feeling that way during the matchplay.
