What was your first hc?

28 but I have never handed in any cards. My handicap was given to me as I needed one for a charity day I was taking part in and didnt have time to enter three cards. Currently play off 22 in a social round with friends and will enter the next comp where I can get cut.

Deafening silence from Essex_Stu as to how he got his handicap.

i honestly can't remember.i started playing golf when i was 10 back in 1996 and played through until 1999 when i was 13.i remember my handicap being 7 when i was 13,and that in 1997 i played the weetabix championship at east kilbride and shot a +16 87.i'm guessing that was my handicap at the time, not that i played well so it might have been less or maybe more.....seems a life time ago.

Silence my friend as I have been at the football watching England U21's. Its an official congu handicap. I joined the club in early June and had the charity day in August. In between I entered no comps but played rounds with friends but never kept score often. I then started keeping score and had rounds of 91,94 and 95 ready to be handed in for my cards. Before I got chance to hand them in I logged in online and found that I had been given a handicap of 28. I enquired and was told I had been given the handicap as I needed one for the charity day. I have only entered one card since the charity day and that was for a winter league game two weeks ago. I am not a bandit or a handicapper protector and genuinely want a better handicap which is my aim for the next year. I can also do a screen dump if anyone would like to see my completed rounds on my club website(It makes for very blank reading)

But you did then hand in the cards ? shouldnt the club have taken the best score twords your handicap ? 91 between 19 (par 72) & 23 (par68) & adjusted it then ? - i for one am not doubting you or your ability in the least must say ive never heard anybody geting an official handicap before cards been submitted tho .. thats why im interested

No blame on your part, but I would suggest that your handicap is not official. A club cannot arbitrarily award any handicap - 28 or otherwise. CONGU insist on a minimum of 3 cards witnessed and signed by a suitable person acceptable to the committee. The three cards must be dealt with in a particular way - adjustments of more than 2 over par adjusted to 2 over par. The 3 cards you mention which you would have submitted would have resulted in a maximum handicap of 20 - assuming they were played from the white tees par 70/SSS71. Through no fault of your own, you are now a bandit.

I really wish I knew the ins and outs but I really don't. I do not know if cards were made up by another person or what but I have only ever handed two cards in to date which were the charity day and the winter league match. I know im eligible for supplementary cards so I might have to complete some rounds and get the cards in. Im annoyed that I got a 28 handicap as I wanted to get an intial handicap of 19 or below to shut my girlfriends uncle up(he plays off 20)

Ive edited the last two numbers by the way.

First h'cap was 18, and a week later it was 14. That was way back in the days of blades and small balls - keep it clean guys. I think it was in 1974(?), in my early teens, when I had hair. Got into single figures not long after and have been struggling ever since.

1st handicap 26 in March/April this year.....got cut to 25 after winning midweek medal.Struggled ever since and become very disalussioned and downhearted about my golf.Have not even been able to justify a 28 handicap.

Have took the plunge with lessons finally (should have done this over 1 year ago ).Had 1st one last week and it went quite well.(I am now trying the interlocking grip instead of overlapping)
