OK guys, we have all watched a film recently, give it a rating out of 10, I've seen a couple of turkeys that had rave reviews so lets get a GM film critic thread on the go.

Just watched The Usual Suspects, again, 10/10

No surprise as I'm in it

If you've seen it you will know where my username comes from, if you're still a Usual Suspects virgin... shame on you :p

It's not quite the last film I've watched, but the last but one. does that count??

anyway, it's called Lars and the Real Girl and it's amazing. It's about a guy who's painfully shy and can't form relationships with anyone so he buys a lifelike sex doll from t'internet. But he doesn't want it for the obvious reason, no, he wants a real relationship with her. although he's obviously a little deluded the whole town loves him so much they play along.

It's an understated gem of a film. Hilarious, sad and beautiful.

Indiana Jones last night.

7.5/10.

Not as good as "The Last Crusade", but better than "The Temple of Doom" I would say it's about on par with "Raiders Of The Last Ark"

AVP2 requiem.

Why spend a load of money on a film, on special effects, monsters, gore etc, and then shoot the whole thing in the dark? Couldn't see a thing the whole way through. At one point I think the screen was black for about 2 minutes. Thought the telly had broken.

You can imply the claustophobia of night without it being totally pitch black.

2/10 - Rubbish.

Con Air- 8.5/10

Watched this on DVD last night and it really is a brilliant film, different from anything I have seen before and packed to the brim with extreme action scenes. It has a decent plot as well although at times it is perhaps a little unbelieveable. However for the unsceptical it is well worth watching.

It must be quite disappointing for some people on here that they've recently watched the greatest films of their lives and will never see a better film.
10/10? Come on people. There are very few films that deserve such an accolade. That means that it's the absolute best. The pinnacle. Can't be beaten.
I love many films, but I can only think of one that might get close to that, but I would always want to leave a little space, just in case I happen upon the perfect film.

I sense some sarcasm Gill. :p
Do you not see my point though. There are very few films that you can justify being 10/10. Even if there was 5 of them, it would have to be some coincidence for them to have been the last 5 films watched on this forum.

A_F - You're not alone! Marks like 8.5/10 for Con Air make me weep.

All I'll say is that you can tell this is a golfer's forum and not a film fan's one!

No real relation to the book some decent cgi but overall a bit underwhelming.

8.5/10 is my opinion on the film and does not have to be agreed upon however atticus referred to films being given a rating of 10/10 (and as such being perect) being unjust and therfore you are not arguing along the same lines as I would whole heartedly agree that it is not a perfect film. I just happened to watch it last night and therfore gave my opinion on it. I was not asking for such criticism.

All I'll say is that you can tell this is a golfer's forum and not a film fan's one!

And in response to that I apologise for not being a perfect film critic as that is not what I do, however I am sure that there are others who would thoroughly enjoy it as a film. Despite the fact that you evidently write it off completely as even partially enjoyable.

I have no problem with you not liking the film but saying that my rating made you weep and therfore implying that I have no idea what I am talking about is unjust and not required. As you have said this is a golf forum and not a film forum so why don't you just accept that you are not going to agree with other peoples views instead of criticising others.

Oh and I still maintain that Con Air is a good film (you offered no reason as to why it is not) and would reccomend watching it despite the fact that admittedly it would not appeal to everyone.

general got-out-of-bed-on-the-wrong-side flouncing

Too many inaccurate assertions about my post to correct you on I'm afraid.

Con Air is vapid pap. There is nothing wrong with vapid pap in that it serves its purpose i.e. mind-disengaging whizz-bangs.

However, rating it highly in film terms is the equivalent of suggesting 'Star Trekkin' is an 8.5/10 song as it's catchy and funny and you liked it. I believe KeyserSoze was after a GM film thread. This to me indicates a desire for film critiquing and not just 'I love Meet The Spartans me' type responses.

Oh, and I wasn't criticising your specific views. I was agreeing with someone else bemoaning the scores being handed out. ;)

If that is the case I have no problem. It is just if you re-read your post it could easily be interpreted (admittedly seemingly misinterpreted in my case) as a direct attack on my opinion. If you were truly going to agree with the other post you could have said how another film given 10/10 was not perfect. As opposed to saying that a film given 8.5/10 was also an impossible to obtain rating- and without giving a reason. You were seemingly belittling my opinion without justifying your case (which you have now done, granted) and that is what angered me (oh yea I didn't get out of bed in a strop :D
