They are supposed to have the same playing properties that the equivalent flex Dynamic Gold shaft has but with a lighter weight. This tends to result in a slightly higher head speed.
They are, I believe, available in R, S and X flex and these equate to the R300, S300 and X100 properties wise. On that basis it is impossible to give a particular player profile as they could suit the vast majority of golfers, if they were properly fitted for them.
I had them in my MP60s and they worked very well. I'd be very interested in trying them in my AP2s if I could find a set with the .355 taper tip in S flex for sensible money (hint, hint.........anyone?).
Good shafts in my humble opinion and useful if you want to add a bit of headspeed or keep shaft weight down.
reason i'm asking is because they are what i have in my irons (mizuno mx900) and recently i've been wondering if they're helping or hindering me.
going for a lesson with the pro in a couple of weeks so will ask him then. I bought my clubs off the shelf (although 2º upright and .5" long) when i was new to the game a couple of years ago and didn't know anything about the benefits of custom fit. The salesman did a good job!!!
I'm not sure if they are stiffer than the equivalent D/G but they feel a little stiffer to me when playing a shot, i have a few 2 and 3 irons that i alternate in the bag and the D/G SL feels the stiffest of them all. All the heads are similar, Mizuno Pro 2, Mizuno TP 19 and a Mizuno MP 32. The SL is in the MP 32.
Sorry on the high jack of your tread but i often wondering the same about the shafts on my driver and 3 wood as both are aldila NV Green shafts, model on the driver is 65-s and the 3wood 75-s.
The 3 wood i just love..
Thanks for any help and sorry again slugger for jumping in on your tread...
The SL is designed to play the to the same flex as the DG equivalent. If they both have the same fles designation (R, S or X) they should play in a very similar way. You may feel that the shaft is more responsive in the SL as it is lighter.
As for the driver/3 wood shaft question from Hendy it is not uncommon for fairway wood shafts to be slightly heavier than driver shafts. A lot of the manufacturers do this and if you look at the specs pages on their websites you will see this is the case. It's more about control with a 3 wood than pure distance. With drivers they are going for lighter shafts to get more head speed and therefore more distance. Often hybrid shafts are even heavier.
The MX900s are a fairly heavy head compared to the likes of a MP30 or MP57. The DG SL is a lighter shaft and has probably been used to keep the swingweight within a reasonable range.
I've played all these clubs and currently have the MX900s in the bag. Shafts haven't made a great deal of difference to the feel of the club. The clubhead and the forgiveness it brings is a totally different thing altogether. I've been really happy with them over the winter
If they need adjusted to suit you, then your pro should be able to do it easily enough, they are after all a forged club head. I'd be surprised if it's the shafts that are causing all the problems. The Lie angle may be a bigger factor
