Booked in for my first ever custom fit with my local pro on thursday for a set of new irons.

I was just wondering what kind of things do they check when fitting and what I should expect.

Also found out that they only offer true temper dynamic gold shafts as a option. Not really knowing too much about shafts yet, are these ok?

dont you fancy the G15's to go with your woods? I didnt like them but never gave them a chance tbh

what make are you buying?
Ping going by his bag details. :D

DG make good shafts matey, dont knock them til you try them.
I seen that but why not Ping shafts, thats why I asked ;)
appology accepted Brendan :D

I wasnt knocking DG just dont know alot about them (cant seem to get on their site either). Or any other shafts TBH

Before I tried any brand I thought I would get the G15's, but having tried them they just seemed slightly clumpy and not right. I guess thats why Im going to try the range that the pro shop stocks.

wilson Di9's are meant to be good, my mate just bought a set the other week and is hitting them well.

First couple of things Id do:
remember your golf shoes and go and hit a few practice balls before hand.
Nothing like getting fitted for a cold swing and incorrect height.

Try and go in with no pre-conceptions and swing within yourself. Its not about trying to hit anything longer than the next make. Is the guy using any sort of swing monitor to measure things liek ball spin etc?

they use a vector pro launch monitor. as I said earlier, not got a certain brand in mind although I do favour the AP1's on a looks basis. quite excited to be honest.

Is it just a case of hitting a 6 or 7 iron and checking the results. Also checking the loft and lie?

if they have a monitor they'll check everything including spin rates, clubhead speed, dispersion, smash rates etc. It will let the pro build up a picture of how you hit each model and what shaft works best for you. I'm sure Bob can go into far more detail but I'd just relax and enjoy the session. There was a good tip from someone else though to go and hit some balls first so you get there nice and loose and swinging freely

I don't understand how a Titleist fitting only offers True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. :D

I just got fitted today and ended up ordering Titleist MB's with project x 5.0. he measured shaft flex of my old 6 iron first then gave me a couple of different clubs to try all the time measuring club head speed, ball speed at impact, back spin, launch angle even club face angle at impact!!

P.S. Hello to all as this is my first post

Firstly, they should do whats called a static fit where they take several measurements.
Then you have the dynamic fit where you hit balls, preferably on the range or in a net.
The results of the 2 processes and a bit of Q and As should give the pro enough information to give you some good advice on which clubs would help you most.
