What to do......

I would join another club, what the name of that one Smiffy is always raving about?

Lydd, yes that's it i think.

you could even take your Bro with you?;)

It's a shame, played the course a number of times as I'm quite local, Chinnor, always enjoyed it.

What local courses would you look at joining?

Aylesbury aka Bierton - that's the dump
Aylesbury Vale is the prime candidate.

Several others similar around like Waterstock, Bicester, Three Locks, Wycombe Heights etc etc but they're a touch too far for me..

To be honest there's only really one viable alternative cost-wise around here.
There's a few "better" clubs demanding "better" prices that are a bit our of reach and one that's so poor I wouldn't even touch with Smiffy's!!

Fundy - may see you soon Mate!

sent you a brief PM mate

Sounds like there won't be a club worth saving soon! The owners need to act fast in coming up with viable alternatives should they lose the appeal! How much of the course will be lost, is it a couple of greens & tees or is it 15 holes?

I'm guessing there's some kind of compensation for the owners losing a going concern? Surely its better for the owners to spend some money on the course and keep the value of that concern as high as possible?

More or less slices the course in half.
The track's going to be 75 metres wide and a 250mph train is going to hurtle through every 10 minutes or so - allegedly...

Word on the street is that the Management will keep the short course and 3 of the main courses holes, use the compensation money for a state of the art range with teaching facilities - using the short course and 3 saved holes as teaching holes.

If it happens it'll be a decent complex but only for lessons and practice - so you'll never catch me there....

It is a really hard situation but I would be leaving as well. I know that the owners would not see any return on their investment but if they cannot spend the money to make staying until the worst happens and attractive proposition then the club is doomed to fail.

It all honesty, I would probably be a bit worse than the average rat. I would be looking to find a group of like minded members looking to move and try and negotiate a better deal at any prospective new club if we all joined at the same time.

Yep, I think the answers are there now
Play your current season/membership year out, and move on whilst still in a great position to have choice
Shame all the same
But gotta look after number one......

Just had an e-mail from the Club saying the day in Court yesterday was a bit of a Saga and they've been asked to go back in today.
More to follow....
Not sure if that's good or bad....

What about Chiltern Forest or Ellesborough? They a bit closer.

Don't like Chiltern - too many Crossover holes and a Mickey Mouse par 3 so uphill you can't see the flag.
Ellesborough...? Give me the numbers for the lottery and I'll buy your Membership too.........

Ian, good luck in your decision. After reading through the thread I'm with the majority. Once the course closes other clubs local will start charging a joining fee due to the demand.

Interestingly the dearest and quite local course has just gone the other way and has dropped the joining fee and is desperate for new members. Id be amazed if ours introduced a joining fee (not quite full and prides itself on competitive pricing), 3 Locks is trying to turn itself into a pay and play and not fussed about members at all. I expect the likes of Ellesborough and Werston Turville and few in the other direction already have joining fees.
