I am missing the Open this year because I am on holiday with the family. Was thinking about my last excursions to the Open and remember loads of spectators wearing golf shoes.

Erm, why?

I spent some time asking a few what time they were teeing off?

Now when I go tot he course I only wear my golf shoes when I am actually swinging a club. I don't even wear them in the spike bar.

What would drive you to wear them when watching golf?

I wore trainers or flip flops last time because the weather was so good.

walking around on uneven terrain, possibly wet grass and ground, standing for many hours walking many miles - choice of walking boots or golf shoes then.......

I think I would be using golf shoes (well I do)

Usually wear my golf shoes, comfy and decent grip/waterproof which are invariably required at UK golf courses, dare say if i was watching at Sun city id wear my flip flops too lol

My golf shoes are uber comfy so I'm happy wearing them to walk round the course watching golf.

Next stupid thread please................................

I always wear golf shoes watching pro events. They are comfy and give me sufficient grip if its damp and slippery. What does the OP suggest. A pair of my finest brogues. Not sure my man servant would appreciate having to clean them after

I wear mine, and yes I wore mine to golf live and did feel as though I didn't need them! To be honest I didn't know what to expect. Then again my normal shoes soak up water like a sponge!

Wore my Footjoy Contours to the BMW at Wentworth last week.

Went on the Wednesday and Sunday, in all that heat.

Best thing to walk round a golf course in is a pair of Golf Shoes

Hmmmm let me think about this. What shoes have I got that are comfortable, provide plenty of grip and support, keep my feet dry if the weather changes and are designed for walking long distances in??

Oh yes......that'll be my golf shoes then!

I still find that my trainers are the comfiest shoes I own. I must be lucky in that the only day I have been rained on at the Open wwas the first day at Birkdale a few years ago. Still don't buy the whole golf shoes thing but that's just me.

At Golf Live there were opportunities to hit all manner of clubs and putters - I wouldn't do that in flip flops! At last years Open the weather was wet, pretty much every day, and the ground was wet and slippery anyway, that ,for me, is golf shoe conditions.

More so than golf shoes?

I also wear golf shoes to cut my lawn. Well, grass and moss then. They seem ideally made for this. More so than golf any way.

No the new nikes have been spot on so far! Wore them from 10-1700 at golf live so comfy. My shoes are worn out so no tred and were suede so the slightest sign of water and my feet get wet.
