Yesterday I played in the May medal, talk about a mixed bag - how can this game be like this and yet still enjoyable?
What? I hear you ask, is my issue... Here it is;
Started my round birdie, par, birdie, par, par, par... So good so far yeah? I thought so too, teed up at the par 3 7th brimming with confidence and walked off with a 3 putt and a double bogey!
Confidence started to wane a bit and onto the 8th, 533yds par 5 SI 1 and a hole I hate, head gone down a bit, sclaffed my drive into a fairway bunker... anyway woes aside I pulled off a miracle shot to get me down for a par...
Played the 9th quite well to hit the turn level and with my confidence returned.
After a lovely par on the tenth (sooo close to birdie with a 30ft putt) this is where it went pear shaped.
11th tee has been moved back and now kind of dog-legs to the fairway (used to be straight ahead) put my 1st straight in the lateral water, so 3 off the tee, bang again - same shot... 5 off the tee and managed to scramble a quadruple bogey 8. The rest was bogey, par, bogey, par, bogey, par, birdie (but I reckon this don't count as it's a par 5 that plays like a par 4 so I feel it's too easy.)

6+ so nett -6 and a cut coming so should be nothing but happy.

Anyways, how can you have such a mixed bag in this game, walk off feeling a mixture of emotions and still want to get out there and do it again?

Could you have penalty dropped from the hazard?
Would have prevented the extra tee shots..........
3 from beside the water against 3 off the tee has to be better..

That quad will be corrected for handicap purposes to a net double bogey, so you will get cut another bit, exact amount depending on whether you get a shot at that hole or not.

That's the bit Ethan, they have moved the tee, made it much more difficult but it's still SI15 so no shot for me.
Old tee position missed the hazard, new tee you play over the worst of it. Will just take me time to adjust to it I guess, just frustrated the life out of me to do the same thing twice, well that and the 3 putt double on the 7th while feeling so confident.

Quick question mate. When you say birdie par birdie par. Is that with your handicap? Just joined a club so never thought about a handicap until now.

Greg, the game does mess with you. I downloaded my recent scores from my skycaddie and was surprised to find how well AND poorly I played on Saturdays medal.

Gross 86 less 16

6 double bogeys + 12 ( thought I had 5 at first but it, was 6)
3 bogeys + 3
9 pars

Less 16= 1 under par net.

1 double bogey was caused by losing the concentration over a 3 feet par putt which I missed and also missed the 12" tap in.

I can take some positives from my round but 6 doubles???????

That's the weird "what the..." element Val, I should be ecstatic with a nett -6 but I can't help the feeling that my round was in some way 'tainted' by the meltdown I had on two holes... Why is it that it's that that's stuck in my mind and not the great approach on 3 from 147y that stopped 2ft for a tap in birdie, yeah I remember it but it's not the shot I keep recounting in my head? Arghhhhh....

This is why mate we play around work and are not on the tour and playing as work. It happens to us all and thats why we keep going back to try and do better.

It is a crazy game! On Thursday i played in the midweek medal and my ball striking was the best ive ever had but my chipping, putting and bunker play was the worst ever! I played the Saturday medal and ball striking was crap but chipping, putting n bunker play was my best for ages! Stupid game!

What will happen this week is anybody's guess but i still cant wait to get out there :)

Stupid game. I shot net 71 on Saturday morning, and net 73 in the pm, both medal. In the pm I dropped my entire handicap on the front nine, but had three bogeys, and two birdies on the back nine. Solid finish. Junk start.
