What squares the club face?

Interesting topic as my pro has me keeping the face slightly open at impact, starting the ball right and drawing back to target. It seems to work well for me.

For me, I think a little miracle happens everytime the ball goes straight, not that it happens that often:) Swing, focus on target and hope!

Spatial awareness and control. Same as picking up a cup of coffee, i.e. what makes your hands arrive at the handle without knocking over the cup? Why over complicate it with you need to do x, y, z? Just do it.

As mark crossfield would say ..

Square to what? Target? A zeroed path?

If your swing path is 5 degrees to the left, you do not want your face pointing squarely at the flag. You will slice the the ball and miss target left.

Apart from luck and as Homer says planetary alignment, I find that a shaft angle of 23 degrees perpendicular to the path with a 6 degree closed baseball grip on the take away, bowed left wrist and a strong shoulder turn to start the down swing helps get the ball off the tee a few feet
