What Price The Snow

Happy Days, been able to get down to the Driving Range for the first time in a month, had a good blow out and got rid of a few cobwebs.

Talking to the pro in the shop, very concerned about the lack of revenue over the last month.

now given that for many folks, this is the close season, revenues are normally lower than summer, but they have taken the following hits

1, 4 Christmas / New Year Parties cancelled
2, Both courses closed for a month
3, Driving Range Also closed same period
4, All Resulting in fewer people in the pro shop and
5 Fewer people in the bar and restaurant.
6 Extra expenses on salt for the access road

They reckon that they have lost £25000 in takings.

I am presuming that all courses have been hit in a similar way.

Could this be the trigger that could signal the end of some loss making courses

I cannot see it, unlike many sports where people just turn up,pay and play, golf clubs at least have their membership subs to look forward to. I agree it has been a tough period but they will soon recover, they've had worse in the past.

They may recommend putting the annual fees up to cover the loss!

I dont think so any course that expects to be open all year round is not taking into account the beautiful english weather albeit the worst one for years,however im sure some will struggle more than others.

I was over there today. Not sure it would have been as much as that. The range has been open in the last month as I've been up there using it. Even the courses was open once the first spell of snow pre-Christmas cleared.

It may push some of the worse-run clubs over the edge but the better run ones will have taken this sort of thing into account in their business plan. It may mean they have to run one of the mowers a year longer than expected or postpone some course work.

Personally its cost me dear...... I reackon I've lost well over a grand in cancelled lessons since Christmas.

Ok to clarify, the Course was open for 4 days inbetween snows and the range too. But only properly reopened on friday.

Wexham has members , but lots of pay and play too. so say 25 people per day didnt turn up that is £500 per day or £12500 if 25 days lost

35 less people for lunch at £7.50 inc drinks is £262. per day or £6500 over 25 lost days.

200 people per day use the range, at 1 bucket each at £1 per time x 25 days = £5000 and many use 2 or more buckets.(When I was there at 2.45 today you had to wait for a free bay)

Soon adds up especially if you include the parties
also lost lessons for the pros themselves.

Put like that I can see how the numbers can stack up. Fortunately for Wexham its P&P trade in summer must more than make enough to carry it through the bad weather we've just had. Its rammed from dawn to dusk in the summer. Even their short game area gets manic. I was over early doors while HID nipped into Wexham so only had time for a quick bucket. We'll have to get together for a game there. I haven't played any of the courses there for years.

I do lots of Computer work in Gerrards Cross area , so its easy to nip over for a bucket or 2 between customers

Havn't actually played the course for years, but good range and very good pro shop

They never had it in the first place. How can they lose it?

Summer is the biggest time for pro shops and golf courses so don't think it'll be the end of the world. the club house should do some good business during the better months too. A few big functions could be a hit but i'm sure most places could deal with that.
