What made you buy your kit!!

Just wondering what was the theory behind buying all your golfing parafanalia.
Im a big Wilson Staff fan not embarrassed or ashamed to admit it....Im a big fan of Harrington and Barnes and most of my kit is Wilson.I prefer keeping all my clubs the same family if i can its a weird compulsive thing i have
Its affordable gear and it doesnt break the bank and it also does what it says on the tin.Alot of my attire then is FJ as this is a happy medium between quality and price i think.
Are you a one brand man or does it matter what kit you have?

Ive got what ive got because i hit them the best out of everything i tried and also got them much cheaper than the rrp which was pretty handy too

I have varied equipment in my bag a lot of it has been selected with the guidance of the pro in the shop so it fitted my game best regardless of brand.

I like TM woods and Titleist irons. Tried others but these are the ones that I hit best.......at times

No one does blades like Mizuno does blades in my book.

Apart from that I'm open to getting gear from any manufacturer and even getting a Nike driver in about a month!!

Used to be a die hard Ping putter man and they still hold a place in my heart, they just have to share it with some Scotty's and my Sabretooth.

Do own a few sets of Mizuno blades and love to use them.
Did test the new blades against others before buying and I found the 68's a cut above. Weather they are or it was me and my favouritism is another matter.

I've liked mizuno gear for years ( footie boots etc)so i bought there irons and i'm not disappointed.

My hybrid and driver i tried several other brands at the time of purchasing but they were the best for me. My putter i bought off my mate for £30 and it was practically brand new.

For future gear i will always try as much as possible within my budget though my preference for irons is Mizuno.

I have veered from Wilson to Mizuno, to Cally and finally stuck with TM. I'm one of those golfers that prefers clubs, bag, towel etc to match (they did with the other makes too). My callys were a big mistake and I needed something else. The TM tour burners were one of the first I tried and seemed to tick all the boxes. The conversion to the R9's was a move to find a club to take me into single figures that still gave me some forgiveness when I'm having a true Homer day

When purchasing my gear went with an open mind and the equipment i use where best in testing except the macgregor 5 wood which was an impulse purchase as i got it for €50.

I'm gonna be 100% honest. Hit my irons beautifully when I tested them. Wedges went for brand name and reputation. Putter cos it looked real nice AND got the job done. Balls got them free with other stuff. Bag because I liked the fact it had a 14 way divider. Clothing mainly Nike cos it went with my bag. Hat, mittens and towel Titleist mittens were nice, towel came free, Nike hats are too small. Shoes FootJoy best golf shoe by a country mile.

I am a bit anal but have a suspicion that I'm gonna like woods that aren't Nike or Titleist. Oh dear

Not loyal to one brand but do normally prefer an established name brand, probably a psychological confidence thing. I'm sure they are perfectly good but I don't really want BenRoss or MD or Nickent gear.

My Wilson irons were the best irons i hit at the time of buying however as i got better over the past two years the Mizuno's were down to pro recommendation and a thorough fitting session, my woods ( Taylormade R9 )were the best shot shape and distance and my putter ( Taylormade itsy bitsy )was feel and accuracy.

If my memory is correct BM, didn't you buy a Nickent Square driver thingy some time ago? I take it you and it didn't get on?

I did Atticus, gave it a try but it put me off square drivers for good - kept imagining a full English everytime I looked down at it sizzling....I mean waggling!

I have had Benross and MD gear too but they were all recycled via eBAY. Usually come back to Ping or Titleist in the end.

I've picked up a couple of bits of Benross recently, purely because they've been recommended to be by the local pro who is trying to teach me ( poor sap - he doesn't know what he's in for )

His opinion, which stands up, is that the components ( shaft and grip especially ) are every bit as good as 'named' brands - The 4w I picked up has an Aldila shaft, and the 3h has a Grafaloy. The fact that I got the pair for £80 means I basically got the grips and club heads for next to nothing.

Ok so the iron heads are cast not forged, but when I've got a couple of hundred quid put aside ( like, er, sometime never, maybe ) he's suggested that I can pick up the Benross VX6 irons from him for £180. Compare that with the MX100s, which would cost about £90 more, and guys on a tight budget, like myself, have got to consider it.

The fact that this guy knows my swing, and is only about £10 - £20 more than the best online prices ( and actually cheaper than some ), makes buying from a local pro money well spent.

There's nothing wrong with the Titleist irons I'm using at the moment, but I've come to the conclusion that the shaft etc is probably more important than the name on the clubhead. So I think 2nd hand club purchases have to be spot on, whereas buying new is easier to get exactly the spec you want.

I knew a guy once who was fiscally challenged and one day he came up to me clutching a brand new club all excited.
Look look Bob, got a brand new driver.
I watched him hit a few shots which admittedly went ok. When I had a waggle with it, the shaft was probably a soft regular. His swing speed is easily fast enough for stiff.
When I suggested he took it back to where he got it from and ask them for a siffer shaft, he replied "I dont think Argos do different shaft options"
To this day, I don't know how I managed to keep a straight face

I generally use the kit that suits me however the only caveat is that irons must be Mizuno,I consider them a thing of beauty, I don't know why but I am just not interested in any other make. If I go into a golf store or pro shop then I will pick up any driver or fairway and give them a swish, hence my mixture of woods, but not other irons I never even pick them up, not even out of interest.If ever Mizuno went out of business then I would probably go to Titleist.

The irons because they were the right price and I hit them okay. Couldn't stump up for the Ping G5 at the time. So Mizuno it was. As and when I replace them I suspect that they'll be Mizunos again. The putter, always loved the Bettinardi looks and got a BC3 for a song. No real preference on woods, but I do like my Ping G10 3 wood. Though that was bought on advice from the club Pro. The wedges 52 and 60 are Mizzy MPRs. Just because I like the look of them. The 56 was a reader test and it's an MD, and I have to say that I'm impressed with it.

I won't by off the shelf anymore. Getting the right club for me is more important than just price. So it'll be under advice from the Pro or a proper fitting session.
