WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM???

I'm rubbish at golf....I've started to type my specific problem about 4 times now and i've come to realise its just consistancy i'm lacking. The lessons i'm having at the mo should help.
I would like to see some simple instruction on shot shaping and back spin around the greens though.

the shot you find most difficult to play - A half shot with a wedge - give me a fulll 52 or 56 (85 or 60 yards) and I'm fine bt ask me to halve the distances with these clubs and its shanks and fats all the way

scenario you struggle to deal with - Standing on the first in a medal knowing my game isn't "on" and I'm hitting the ball left and right - trying to find a way of getting it round

area of your game you wish was better - Long bunker shots. Like many I can get it out 8/10 times from greenside bunkers to a close flag placement with a modicum of control but ask for a 20-30 yard bunker shot to a back flag position and I'll hit it way too heavy or blade it over the back

I just wondered what was...
the shot you find most difficult to play

Definately warming up before a round. At the moment it normally consists of 2 Benson&Hedges, picking up a card and walking to the first tee :p Whilst I like this method (wouldn't mind an extra ciggy though) I think it can be improved upon.

Putting! (lost it today Bob need the you know what quick!)

Irons all over the show today I actually missed one today!
Whiffed it 5 yards right :o

Mind you I did see the Captain top a tee shot on the 15th (par 3) then try to hack it out of some nice thick rough (failed) so every cloud!

1. the shot you find most difficult to play
2. scenario you struggle to deal with
3. area of your game you wish was better

1. Driving is my main problem, I get the odd wicked slice out of nowhere, rest of my game is thankfully pretty solid.
2. Recovering my thoughts after a poor drive, I always seem to have a problem getting focused again and try the 1 in a million shot to recover, instead of taking my punishment and playing the percentage shot.
3. DRIVING. :(

GREENSIDE BUNKERS............I just cant seem to get out of them!!!!!!

Granted some of them dont have much sand in them due to the prevailing winds (links course) but I just down know how to approach the shot. I have tried a sand wedge, pitching wedge
and even a 64 wedge and which ever one I use, it keeps hitting the face of the bunker.
The best I can hope for is to play my next shot from behind me as the ball richochets over my shoulder.

But I'll keep trying

I always thought I was unusual in having difficulty with irons. Being a feeble woman I rely a lot on woods for distance, and it took me a long time to get cnmfortable with mid irons. thought I had cracked it last year, but when under pressure (like playing at new club with comparative strangers!) it's the irons that are most likely to crumble.
and as for bunkers - don't let me start. Nothing for it but a lesson, but for consistent iron striking, any tips would be handy.

If I have to hit an iron I am not 100% confident with, I try to convince myself that I am hitting one that I am happy with. I can hit my 7 iron much more consistently than my 5. So if faced with a 5 iron shot I will try to tell myself that it is a 7 and try to swing as confidently with it as I would if I actually had the 7 in my hand. From the point where I pull it out of the bag I am telling myself "this is a 7 iron"....repeat all the time in your mind as you are setting up.
Doesn't always work....but works more often than not.

Good call - I sometimes try to trick myself in other situations (there is no lake in front of you - you are playing your fave hole on your home course
Sometimes I even convince myself!

shots: Putting (generally), chip & runs, 50 yd pitch.
scenario: par three with danger on the right (often end up hitting weak slice)
and keeping to a game plan.

bunkers - I just can't get to grips with them. I can thin them miles out the back, hit too soft and stay in, miss entirely from hitting too far behind. (fortunately we don't have many but go anywhere that does . . .)
Some I think is down to trying to over-control shots (another big problem) by really slowing the swing and not hitting through - I just can't force myself to hit hard when all I want to do is get it to stay on the green.

and the universal consistency - especially of the second shot. so many good tee-shots wasted.

So, that's 19 chapters on the short game and 1 on the long game and driving :)
Seriously, watching and playing with higher handicap players, the short game is often the area of the game that a little improvement would make a huge difference to people scores and enjoyment of the game.
