What is the worst shot you have played in golf?

LOL.....way too many to mention. Keep it recent - last week 5 putt from 5 inches. Whiffed at the ball 3 times (frustration at missing a short birdie putt) and the ball oscillated each time :)

Air shots are probably the most embarrasing. But at least they don't worsen your situation. For me, the most painful ones are the ones where you hit a tree and the ball bounces back, so that you end up further from the hole (and often in even more trouble) than you were before the shot. Plus they give you a good chance of killing yourself or any of your playing partners in the process.

The specific one I am most annoyed about, though (and I've done it twice so far) is a tee shot on our 6th hole that slices right ... over a little hill with a group of trees, over the adjacent fairway of the 16th and straight into a water hazard. It's a hilarious shot, and I bet if you tried to aim for that water hazard, you could never reach it.

16th at Crail Balcomie, a relatively short uphill par-3.... chunked a 7-iron so badly that the ball hit a tee-marker and shot straight left into the North Sea. Played 3 and almost did it again, this time clearing the same tee-marker i had just hit by a foot and the ball coming to rest in the middle of a thicket of gorse at the bottom of the hill.

Our 9th has a big rock about 20 yards in front of the tee, the girl I was playing with thinned her tee shot which hit the rock and flew left towards the cark park, I laughed at her and then promptly did exactly the same thing!

Par 3 2nd hole, 143yds, shanked an 8i off the tee, missed my PP by a couple of feet, smashed into the wheel of his trolley and looped back over both of us and into the boondocks behind the tee.

Think I still managed to make a 5.

Thousands to choose from.

Most memorable was probably a power shank off the 17th tee at the Castle Course in St Andrews. Probably isn't a better tee in the world to pull out a 150 yard hosel rocket on

Mate! I feel your pain - I did almost exactly the same as this many years ago at Sheerness golf club
My mates were rolling around on the ground partly protecting their heads and partly holding their tummies as they cried in laughter...
will never forget... sadly!
But on the + side, it's what inspired me to learn to play the game - as I had a point to prove!

I'm sure I've forgotten hundreds, but I do remember one from last year when I was using a 7 wood I was borrowing off my dad - the head on it was quite small, and I somehow managed to hit a shot right off the toe of the club so it went almost 90 degrees right and straight into the trees. I gave it back to him after that!

Another time last year, playing the first at my club. It's a par 3 with a two-tiered green. I put my tee shot on the green, bottom tier while the flag was on the top one. I proceded to 5-putt it as my first two putt attempts didn't make it up the slope! More of a set of bad shots than one, but anyway, I don't know what went wrong I just lost the plot.

Most recently I had a stinker the other week. Having just topped my tee shot into a lake, I angrily whipped another ball out of my pocket, plonked it down on the tee and promptly did exactly the same thing again. So then I switched clubs (6 iron back in the back, pulled the 7 iron out as I tend to hit it better) - while one of my playing partners was busy stuffing his ball in the lake as well - and then for my third attempt I launched it over the lake, and over the green with an almighty hook that sent it into another body of water over the back. Gave up on that hole and moved on.

Mate of mine did one of those on 18 at The Glen trying to play it safe with a 4-iron off the tee.. luckily there were no cars on the road, ball landed smack in the middle of the road and bounded over to the beach.

That's more dangerous than the 17th at the Caste with the world to the right of the tee right enough!!

I've hit many a tee shot there that's had my heart in my mouth but never actually hit a car thankfully.....
