What is the most difficult course you've ever played?

I got badly beaten up by West Lancs. Blowing a hooley and I remember hitting driver, 3 wood, 5 iron which left a 20 yard pitch onto green on the second. All were pretty well hit too. The greens were lightning quick too.

Most difficult Links for me was Murvagh in July. Rough was brutal!

Most difficult parkland was Concrawood of the black tees. Even off the society tee's that course has chewed me up and spat me out.

I've played most of the courses that have been mentioned so far, none come close to St Enodoc off the blues in a hooley :ears:

2 sayings about SE

1) The fairways are so narrow you have to walk down them in single file
2) You need a snipers rifle to hit the fairways at SE

Heard somewhere that you found one particular day at Blairgowrie rather difficult :D

I agree with Karen Carnoustie in the wind and rain is just awful.

Sadly John, it was just the monkey at the end of the club that day around your fab course:(

I'm not a fan of these tall green things ep with a dose of the shermans in the bag;)

Westward Ho! in a agale and some torrential rain. But that dopesn;t mean to say the course itself is that difficult. Played Royal Birkdale in a foursomes pairing with a massive hangover - lovely day - it was hell...17 pts we got.

Seems that weather conditions on the day is a common theme, particular in a bit of a draft.

Not to hijack D4S post, but wonder what toughest tracks have been on a flat calm day??

Possibly Royal St Davids when I played it mid summer one year. Thick brutal rough lining all the fairways, IF you found your ball it was a sideways hack out. Wasn't impressed with the course but certainly tough.

Either The Duchess @ Woburn or Valderama for me.

Both play ridiculously tight, being on the fairway isn't always great - being in the right place is vital. The "wedge out" was perfected by the end of each round!!! :)

You found Murvagh so difficult as you were actually playing Ballyliffin but had your skycaddie set for Murvagh

Walton Heath off the back (Purple) tees for me. Though that's one of only half a dozen courses I've played off the very back tees. The Shire off the back (Emerald) tees is a monster more for the Par 3s than anything else. 3 of them a Driver for me!

They can all be tough dependent on how you turn up and play, but having the bad weather helps to excuse your low score

Played Lytham on a flat calm day and would still be the same answer for me.

I've had "harder" days on a golf course (Gullane no1 in a hurricane and Hillside in a golfing meltdown spring to mind!!) but it is not a tougher golf course than Lytham.

Edit: Should have added Silloth in the Open this year with the weather we had

I caddied for my daughter on The Duchess one year in the Prince of Wales Trophy {girls}
It was baked hard [before fairway watering]
She was really playing and scoring well and at a long hole near the turn she hit a great drive which split the fairway.
It then must have landed on a pine cone and pitched 90 degrees left uphill OOB.

Yes it was tough.
