I am asking this as I had a friend who always claimed he had beat me to single fig's as he was off 9 in his society surely the only real HC is a club one right or wrong ????

I have given myself a handicap of +3, does that make it real?

Certified handicaps, rightly or wrongly are the only proper way of judging a golfer.

My driver seems to be able to differentiate between a range ball and hit it staight and a Bridgestone, Srixon or Titleist and send it with uncanny accuracy into the rubbish

Maybe you should nick one of the low spining one pc range ball's and try and play 9 with it might be something in it!!

Most society golf have their own system of handicapping whereby if you win you get cut and if you dont you get extra shots. The cuts in no way mirror the cuts on the computer done under CONGU and, as a result, society handicaps are utterly meaningless.

Try applying to join a club as an 8 h/cap society golfer and you will politely asked to submit 3 cards for a proper handicap to be given.

Chris

you want to try joining the one ive just joint,

-2 for winning, anything over 38 is a cut per point also.

A guy romped in with 49 points this week and got cut 13 strokes from his handicap. anyone from 2nd back gets a shot back for the following even. there are some players there off 30+ (caped at 36) its unreal.

it was a 35 h/capper that won this week, he's gonna struggle like hell when next week he has to play off 22. Revenge!

Society handicaps are fictional numbers designed to reward average golf. My society handicap has been single figures for most of the last 3 years.

Official handicaps are the only ones that count.
