What happened to White headed Drivers?

Their head of R&D, Benoit something or other said, in GM that White was "The Best" colour for a Driver. Not better but best...

But now it appears matt black is .........

For now.

They might still think it's best ?

Their drivers work for me - I like the white colour

That's all that should really matter to people

I don't buy things because of what some marketing guy says - I buy it because of its performance

Black & white TVs were "best" at one stage

VHS was "best" at one stage

Persimmon was "best" at one stage

Balata was "best" at on stage

Progression, development, trend etc etc

That's technology.

Where's the tech progression in painting something a different colour...?

So now they're making drivers in a colour that they believe isn't the best & charging £300 for it

Who knows - hence why I asked the question

Maybe they have changed their minds through development

Does it really matter at the end of the day ?

The TM white headed drivers were (are) very gaudy in a showy off way that is ok if you can drive the ball well off the tee, but if you duff it then you're considered a Pratt with a flashy driver.

The tech was in the head - the different paint job made the impact and got people talking. Even if it was miserable old farts trotting out a dull line about a new TM product every fortnight. ;)

I have no allegiance to TM as you can see in my sig - although i thought the lethal balls were very good. But I do like choice and hope that they keep bringing out new stuff.

Its horses for courses... It's your money you can buy in to it or you can opt out. I think they were clever to bring out the heads in white and black, then they have all their market covered.
My driver is white and black .. It's rather nice :)

I really dislike TM these days but...

TM make great driver heads even if some of them look horrific, I've just bought a G25 driver purely for the fact that I'm a big kid who likes new toys but there is no chance I'm getting rid of the RBZ driver as it has worked great for me.

We will be saying the same when Nike get rid of the cavity in there woods... If people are stupid enough to buy clubs based on the claims company's are making then its there own fault.

Will everyone who owns Vokey SM4's be upgrading shortly because the new SM5 has better groves according the Titleist?

My only gripe with TM drivers & fairways is they don't seem to stay looking new for very long on the sole. R1 seem to be the worst offenders.

I think your getting mixed. It's white trousers that make you look a Pratt if you duff it.

If it helps, the jetspeed seems the closest to a tradition set up, gloss dark head, metal colour base and best of all a black face.. I'm looking.... I really am, but I think I'll wait 6 months and get it when the jet2 comes out and jet1 is £100 new

Ping have the go faster stripes on the I25 to aid alignment although in the matt grey they aren't too garish. Everyone seemed to jump on the white bandwagon including the likes of Benross (not noted for their publicity and advertising) so clearly the market thought there was a demand for it. Once someone goes on another tangent others tend to follow

Maybe in 20 years they will look outdated but because there are many white headed makes out there now, Im happy to crack on with my R11s Driver, 3w and 5w.
Trends come and go, doesnt make them bad ideas.
