Just reading about TM new driver the Jetspeed and noticed it replaces the Rocketballz s stage 2.

So what happened to White was better etc, etc. ???

Didn't you know? We have a different type of sun now. The new one doesn't glare off of black clubs so tm reverted back to black!!!!

It's just TM way of saying that the whole White is better was a load of marketing crap & now they've milked it they're now going with the ADD LOFT pitch.

Did they actually say white was "better" but just said it gave visual impression that the head "looked" bigger - it was visually different as opposed to being better ?

They did it for 3 years and now move on to something else

Just like all manufacturers try ideas - then move on to different ideas and they are all followed by the same marketing headlines

Nike tried square drivers now trying red ones with half of it missing , Callaway going back to big Berther , Pumas colour options

You would think TM were the only ones

I had no problem with the white finish, just the fact they didn't gloss/laquer finish it so it chopped far to easy.

My r11 was only 6 rounds old and has a few marks that wouldn't have happened on a gloss finished drive, whiles were at it I can't work out while all manufactures went black on the soles either, they scuff to easy and show far too many premature marks that are not present on drivers with a silver sole.

Scrap all this gimmick crack, I want my 09 burner back, glass unchipped finish, silver unscuffed sole, silver unmarked face, after 3 full seasons.

Your staunch defence of TM again Phil!!?

They did claim it was better, I think to do with alignment?

You're right all companies have "gimmicks" TM (Callaway going the same way) set themselves up with uber aggressive marketing and claims....

Here come the TM haters!!! Haha

Don't forget that Poults was using an all white driver from Cobra at the same time!!! Share the hate round!!!!

Trend over.....for a while, some really good clubs in amongst it.

That's the problem with TM, you can't discuss them without the 'H' bomb being dropped :D

In reality the white head was a marketing tool, to make them more recognisable on tour. When cobra etc jumped on the bandwagon there's no point continuing.

As an aside I reckon TM have really got their act together with the current (this months) offering

The sldr is a cracking looking club, the new Tp irons look top notch in the flesh, and two clubs from their offering seem to have ended up in my bag:o

Having always been a Callaway Driver fan I've always liked Black headed drivers however after having a play with a TM Superfast TP and loving the Ozik HD6 shaft but hating the open face and fade it promoted, I eventually bought a RBZ fitted with the Ozik HD6 TP shaft.

It was white and different but being a traditional shape I could put up with it. After a short while I actually came to like it and the fact that the matt finish wasn't affected by glare like some drivers.

Since then I have bought the R1 and although I didn't like the orange and grey on the head it didn't bother me as I judge clubs by their performance.

If TM get rid of the white altogether I think it will be a big marketing mistake. The white is distinctive and it works and I wouldn't be surprised to see another white model launched soon.

TM are not the No 1 driver on tour because they make bad drivers, they are where they are because one, their products work and two they are good at marketing them.

I'm not saying that they manufacture the worlds best drivers, just that they work for the players that use them.

The difference was though, the TM efforts are a very dull/cheap MATT finish whereas the Cobra efforts were a gloss almost pearlescent/quality finish which looked/s a million times better than TM`s.

Their head of R&D, Benoit something or other said, in GM that White was "The Best" colour for a Driver. Not better but best...

But now it appears matt black is .........

For now.

I think that the matt white finish was chosen deliberately to reduce glare on sunny days (remember them?). Does seem to chip rather easily though, which is an advantage if you buy secondhand TM woods, as any paint chips reduce the price, as long as you can put up with them. I bought a secondhand R1 with one tiny chip on it for £100, which was about 30% of the original new price. I am very happy with it!

Black & white TVs were "best" at one stage

VHS was "best" at one stage

Persimmon was "best" at one stage

Balata was "best" at on stage

Progression, development, trend etc etc

Sorry but it's hardly the same. Black & white TV's were never better than colour.
VHS was never better than DVD.
