would be the cut for me presently i have done the winning bit and gotten my name on a couple of board comps at previous club so with looking to get back to single figures after a break did well to start off 10 although 2 x 0.1 and a buffer are not overly encouraging.

Well ive never done either of them yet but my main aim at the moment is to get my handicap down because 20 is just not good enough imo. I want to be as good as i possibly can and improvement is more to me than a hollow victory over guys who could possibly of gone round the course in 20 shots less than me :)

Always a cut and have never been bothered about winning unless it's a pairs/team competition so no cut in the offing.

Only exception was the Presidents Cup last year but that was after the event when I was leading with one group still on the course. Got both on that occasion.

wouldnt mind another win. ive only ever had one. had three second places last year. one was presidents day with 46 points. got a 19inch tv instead of a 32! doh !!

The more I think about it the harder it becomes to choose, but not for the obvious reason.

Yes, it's nice when you win and you have something to show for your good play, but golf for me (apart from the obvious enjoyment we all get out of it) is about being the best that I can.

If I get a cut but come nowhere, I've been beaten. I'm happy I've got the cut but at the end of the day there were other people that played better than me, and that's not what I'm aiming for.

At least if you win without a cut you have the satisfaction of knowing you were (relatively) the best golfer on the day.

Even more satisfying to me, regardless of whether or not I win the comp or get a cut, is to have shot the lowest gross round of the day. Only happened twice that I remember but I felt more pleased with myself for doing that than any nett win.

last year on St Patricks day open, first comp of the year off the back sticks there was only 11 that played to or below handicap. 42 won it and 5 on 37 and 5 on 36.

so second and third more or less just played to their handicap.

a cut definitely gives me more pleasure...unless it is like the weekend, when a person in the clubhouse thought he had won the competition until I had finished, and went crazy that he should have won it etc etc. That gave e a lot of pleasure!!

I went for cut over a win but normally they do go hand in hand except when your card marker makes a complete c*ck up of it and you get disqualified BUT still get cut by the computer.
I need cuts to make my PYBC personal achievement of getting down to 18 this year and getting my name on a trophy while I've still got my bandits handicap!

always check your own card after the round. triple check if you have done well. two of my mates got DQ'd this year in their very first comp. i marked their cards and had the ask the secretary what was the problem. he informed me they hadnt filled in their handicap. i was glad as i thought it was something i had done. they had a bad score anyway so it wasnt a costly mistake!
