Funny old afternoon.

Managed to get 9 holes in - my 3rd complete round since my comeback, and only 2 retirements, so far.

My dilemma. What should I play off at forum meets etc ?

I consider myself to currently be somewhere around the 22 - 24 mark, but with the game ( hopefully and the temperment ) to get down to 18. If I ever manage to rejoin a club, then I'd be looking to get down a tad further as well.

Does the quality of the course come into the equation ?

1st round was on a 5600 par 70 course, and I hit 83
2nd was on a 6000 yard par 70, hitting 93
Today I played a 6200 yard par 72 course and hit a 92

All solo rounds with no pressure, but I tried to play them as seriously as I could.

Do I just take the ave ? Make it 18 and a bit ?

I hit a 9, an 8 and a 7 today. I cold easily hit double figures. My game is increadily inconsistant.

I still feel like a 22-24 handicapper, but I wouldn't want to play a forum game with a duff handicap, especially if I could get a decent run of holes at some point.

Obv playing somewhere you don't know doesn't help. ( IE Chartham ) And my general fittness is appalling.

What do you reckon ?

Have a trawl around the earlier threads - and you should find several about working out handicaps. But basically...

Go through your best card - not the average. Your handicap should reflect what you are capable of, not what you normally average. Count up how many shots over par you are, but count only a maximum of two for any one hole. (So a 7 on a par four counts only as two over, as would an eight). Birdies, if you have any, count as -1 each.

And there you have it - it will be in the correct region for most social purposes, but, of course, the only true way is to get an official one.

TBH I think that's what I should be aiming for pdq, so I'd happily go along with that, even though it'll be damn tough to play to atm.

But 13 !! Not on a proper course. Not me. Not yet awhile, at least. I'm not like you superdoods.
