What do I do in this situation?

Ok been playing a stableford today at Montecastillo in Spain former home of the Volvo Masters.

They are carrying out some redevelopment of the fairways and building new bunkers.

So I hit my 2nd shot on the 14th fairway and it ended up in a bunker under construction. I was walking over to it not looking forward to playing out of it and a construction worker (with a massive smile on his face) picked up my ball and tried to pass it to me, I let the ball drop on the floor at my feet so but didn't know what to do.

I carried on and took it as (outside interfearance) so didn't count as a drop.

Was I correct, the ball was unplayable where it was and as the hazard was not complete would I have been entitled to a free drop anyway?

Thanks

Callum

Super so it seems I played it right then.

Thanks people, for those who play in Spain I would recommend Montecastillo, they offer a room for 80 euros (we had 2 sharing so 40 each) which gives you free golf for the two days, I managed to squeeze in 45 holes in 2 days.

Some of the holes are pretty difficult, especially the ones that require a 150 yard minnimum carry to clear some wooded areas.
