What did you do and how did you fare this w'end....

36 hole medal for me yesterday.

The first round was my usual display of the sublime and the ridiculous. Imagine my delight at being 7 over after the front nine despite making 6 pars  I finished at +15 with a further treble and a double on the back nine.

The second round started with me claiming that my only aim for the second round was not to have any doubles and trebles.

Hole 1: Double bogey

That was for a change the only one in the round. Turned in +3 having made 7 pars and a bogey since the first and then bogied the first 5 holes of the back nine (For the first time in weeks I'd have preferred a treble and 4 pars!!). Ended up with yet another gross 79 (+9), I think that's 6 times in the last 8 rounds I've shot 78 or 79.

The nett result is my h'cap is up to 7.5 so going the wrong way but I'm not too bothered as I still feel like I'm playing well and not far away from a decent round.

I did have the pleasure of playing with our club champ who is an ex-pro. Crikey does that guy know how to hit a golf ball!! I know we have a lot of discussion on here about driving distance but this fella hit tee shots onto parts of the fairway I didn't think it was possible to hit (and many times with a 3W). There are trees on the course everyone else goes round, he just takes dead aim over the top of them, it's insane. I swear he hit his drive on 16 so hard with a 3W that I heard the ball screaming in pain as it left the club.

Played in a scratch event at Bearwood Lakes, played off the black tees at 6860 yards. Al;ways plays tough and the greens were fast with a few treacherous pin positions. Most of the holes play 10-20 yards longer, but a few play up to 60 yards longer, including the existing stroke 1, which is a dogleg right to left up a hill and goes from 420 yards up to 472.

Started off OK, but frittered a lot of shots away on the back nine, and ended up in the buffer zone.

First round in circa 6 weeks this weekend, competition at the course I joined just to keep my handicap timing over, so only my second round there.
Thought I had better go to the range on Fri PM to see if I could remember how to swing and was the worst I have hit a ball in years- slices and tops galore. So bad, I went back on Sat and it was worse.
So not expecting much from the medal / comp
Decided to swing slowly, and first tee shot went straight down the middle with driver . Continued to play round mostly with half swings on each club, and brought in 35 points, with 5 3putts, all of those due to under hitting. So very happy with that. Good course management and I strongly recommend half swings when you haven't been playing for a while.

Penultimate OOM event of the year.

Played lovely in the morning for a 71 which was the worst it could have been - putting not great, missed 5 putts inside 10ft.

78 in the PM round, completely lost the pace of the greens four 3 whacks and nothing holes inside 6ft.

A 0.1 cut over the day is a small mercy.

I think there may be a focus for practice from yesterday :(

I'm in a state of shock, got my first cut of the year. Nett 71 round St Enodoc off the championship tees, only way to describe that course is brutal. Not 1 single hole on the course that can be described as easy.

Been playing rubbish recently so chuffed to bits to have shot my best round of the year in the strokeplay medal on Saturday - 88 nett 67. Itching to know what the cut will be. Better still was that I repeated the form on Sunday. Happy days at last...

well done, ready for the next cut now ;)

Played a 36 hole competition at the weekend over Saturday and Sunday.

Not the best of starts is a bit on an understatement 9 - 9 - 8 - 5 NR !!!! Was ready to walk in but persevered and things picked up a little. Both days it was a howling gale

On Sunday at least I managed to keep a score for the full 18 holes 98 :( nett 80. CSSS was 74 so only just missed buffer by the stableford adjustment. The score included 3 lost balls. Only had 30 putts though and managed to keep the same ball on the back nine.

Our place is measured a little like that just now i.e. how many balls did you lose ??

I felt things coming back a bit on the back nine, after a very poor August and am desperate to get out and play this week.

After a recent run of good scores it all ended in yesterday's Monthly Medal.

Tee shot on the first was pushed and when found it was 6 inches OB, I was pleased to "par" the provisional but the first tee shot set the pattern for the day really, I hit ONE fairway all round.

A missed three foot putt for par on the second set another pattern and I ended up scoring 87 gross, 77 net, five over handicap.

Medal Sunday, got cut .8 to 12.2 after a net 68, that's 4.6 cut in two comps, might be a bit of a struggle from now on !
