What bets do you have on the course?

just between me and my mate

match play loser buys the drinks and meal

if there is a golf tournament we want to bet on, £2 per hole goes into the betting pot, loser contributing

eagles obligatory £10 and a £10 threshers voucher

albatross or hole in one, £50 and a visit to dawns (yet to happen)

When it's the usual crowd it's normally £1 per hole and 50p Ouzler (Closest the pin on par 3 when GIR).
It always sounds like it's going to be expensive but usually ens up in "well I owe you/you owe me £2.50..." :D

Adds a wee bit of fun to a game.

I love it when you play £2, £2, £2, win all three and then they say "winner buys the drinks".
Round comes to just under £20.00 so you are £2.00 out of pocket for winning.
WTF is that all about???

That's not a bad style imo. Another of the swindles at an old place played that way. Nobody ends up disappointed or really out of pocket. It's not really about the cash, which should revolve imo.

We usually play for a fiver in the Roll up groups. That covers the entry fee, which gets you a pint, tea cake/crumpet and some chips.

Fiver a corner plus £2 nearest pin on par 3's and £1 for birdies /£3 for eagles. Whoever is up at the end gets the coffee/drinks in.

£1 Camels (any shot in a bunker), £1 Snakes ( any three putt). Played alongside whatever the main game (skins, split 6s, match or whatever) is. The last person to do either 'carries' the full amount and has to pay out to the other players at the end. It all rolls along quite nicely until you get to about 15 when people really start to think about it. The pressure can become palpable. Experienced players can try 'Snake avoidance' (deliberately missing greens) which counts as one anyway. Whether snake avoidance is deliberate or not is determined solely by the other players.....It is excellent for a friendly game amongst good friends. Various muffled shouts of 'get in the beach!' can often be heard in the last three holes.....

With mates £1 per par 3 (closest to pin)
Also stared playing split 6s when in a three ball with each point worth 10p or 20p so £3.60 or £7.20 per head goes in the pot and your points total x £0.10 or £0.20 back at the end. Not big money, more for bragging rights etc :)

With work £5 or £10 in winner takes all

As with most, our roll up has its own handicapping which Hawkeye diligently does each week. If you win you get cut 2 shots for the next three weeks, and if you come second its a one shot cut. It ensures that we don't get the same winners and as we have a huge spread of handicap from single figures up to the high twenty's it does mean everyone has a chance. There are some I know off where handicaps are just taken of the club handicap and its the same faces taking the money. Hardly seems fair but no-one seems to grumble giving their few quid to the same people so they must be happy
