What bets do you have on the course?

I cant bet... Duno why, I just cant do it. I have been a bad boy in many ways as a lad but one vice I have never had is betting. I don't even play the 3s club.

depends, normally a fiver in for lowest score if just a 3-4 ball. if we have a few more, will chuck a fiver in each and have a pot, then have nearest pin and longest drive. thats about it, pretty standard i expect.

we used to have a SUNDAY bash that was £1 a hole,£1 for birdies and £5 overall but to many people started to turn up so it was changed to £5 in the pot winner takes all, this was before the cheats started to play(2 got banned from the club over it) so the club stopped us playing it,some of the better off members have a £100 4ball game but this is frowned upon now.

£1 Front 9
£1 Back 9
£1 Overall

The overall winner also takes home the 'El Bandito' poker chip. Like this:

Normally play for a fiver although it rarely changes hands, winners normally been buy the tea and scones afterwards. In my days of big earning would not be unknown to play €50 €50 €100 crazy when I look back on it now

and the rest :) I still remember standing over a 30" breaking down hill putt for 'everything' once many years ago :(

nowadays I avoid side bets on the course, never suggest them, but will probably join in if everyone else wants to.

happy to play the formal swindles @ £5 a go, and a couple of informal groups at the same, or £1/£1/£1; it's only the cost of a ball (which I never buy anyway)

happy to enter the comps @ £4 etc - still a bet really :)

Really try and enter all comps.
We also have a hustle.
£3 to enter,50p for birdies, eagles count as two birdies.
Under 7 winner takes all,over 7 first 2.
Always play whatever the comp is,medal, bogey, stableford.
Not much money changes hand, however it adds to the fun.
You certainly don't want to come in with no birdies.

Aside from the £2 swindle entry - in 3balls the person last in group through 11 buys breakfast or 4balls it's the team in the group with lowest combined.

Was offered a £10 at 2-1 on getting up-and-down on a 20yard, 6ft below the green bunker shot on Monday, which I refused - I'm sure I don't need to point out what happened!

Usually, £2 on the swindle. Occasionally, £5 when playing a GMNE game. And the odd Sunday £1,£1,£1 + 50p bits(birdies, eagles, ouslams, reverse ouslams, sandy ferrets, golden sandy ferrets).

50p, or a Fiver these days.

Ten years ago...

Swindle I played in regularly used to be £1 plus 50p for nearest the pin - and winnings/losses affected swindle handicap.

Occasionally played in the 'Sunday Swindle' which was £10 in and winner got all but 1 round of drinks. Again, handicap adjusted (-1 shot for 4 weeks) if won.

Additional £20 on the game at the 'low' level I played. Other groups were playing for £100 or £200 and 1 group would also bet on incidents within holes! Golf wasn't their pastime though; merely one of the boards used for their real pastime - gambling. They'd come off the course and relax by playing cards while betting on the races!

For me, the money was 'enough to sting' and it ceetainly made me focus on each shot. Intention was that by playing like this - and the cash really did pretty much revolve - Medals would be much less 'threatening'. It worked!

I love it when you play £2, £2, £2, win all three and then they say "winner buys the drinks".
Round comes to just under £20.00 so you are £2.00 out of pocket for winning.
WTF is that all about???

Usually longest overall drive. If it's a practice round then closest to the pin on most holes. highest overall score gets the pints in!
