What a waste.....!!

I met this kid (25) and I've never seen a ball striker like him. We met about 2 weeks ago and he was all over the place, long hitter, although I didn't really noticed just how 'big' until the 15th hole when he hit an iron from 190yds and then said... "I was trying to lay up with that 7-iron, I didn't expect it to land next to the pin".

I mean WHO even pulls a 7-iron from 190... into the wind!!!???

This guy is a Natural (and I mean that with a capital N)

And he can putt.... knocks in 3ft - 6ft putts for fun. It's extraordinary just how many putts he makes.... and as for his driving.... it's mahooooosive!

I've played three rounds with him now and these are the clubs I've seen him hit over those few rounds.....

1 (525) Driver, 8-iron
2 (367) 4-iron, wedge (uphill)
3 (389) Driver, lob wedge
4 (165) 9-iron
5 (440) Driver, 8-iron (uphill)
6 (152) Wedge
7 (305) 6 iron, lob wedge (uphill)
8 (480) Driver, 6-iron
9 (241) 4 iron
10 (348) Driver, chipped on
11 (425) Driver, punchy wedge
12 (318) Drove the green
13 (180) 6 iron (uphill)
14 (415) Driver, wedge
15 (458) Driver, 9-iron
16 (407) Driver, wedge
17 (172) 8 iron (into the wind)
18 (531) Driver, 3-iron (hit the pin)

His h/cap?

20.2

This guy is a NATURAL, you could play for an entire lifetime and not hit the ball like he does, I've never seen anyone so gifted..... but at 25? I dunno.... if he wanted to be a pro he could almost make it if he lived the game for the next 2-5yrs, his game is really amazing, I've never seen anyone so natural and hit the ball soooooo far. I don't know whether to laugh or cry for him - seems such a waste of a gift. We do have a right good laugh though (little consolation!!) :D

not sure why you are making such a fuss, sounds like ave forum distances to me ;)

hmmmm excited by man hitting long balls with stiff shafts...

likes to stand behind Chrisd........

I think I see a pattern :ears:

Excellent forum yardages there....what distance does he hit in real life? ;)

Sorry but not really sure what the fuss is. He clearly has issues in his game and is never going to make it as a pro. He obviously doesn't have the time or inclination to put the hours in or would have done so. Long hitter with swing issues who may get to single figures. Sounds kind of familiar actually

Played with a 6 hcapper in a comp few weeks ago......longest drives off the tee ive ever played with......16th hole par 5...wind assisted....380 yards down into the hollow part of the fairway (its flat for for the 1st 320 yards)...Amazing sight seeing that happen.....but it never fazed me his driving,he got 29 points.....to my 43......our gross scores would have been very similar...

Erm - given that you ended up with 43 pts methinks your 6 hcapper was well and truly p****d off by the time you got to the 16th tee and he gave it a 'sod it all' almighty welly :)

Seeing you calling him a natural despite the fact he's off 20 assures me that I made the right decision to take all your 'expert' advice with a huge lorry load of salt.

He hits the ball like you NEVER could..... in fact, like most people never could in a lifetime... that's natural.

His inability to score with a card in his hand is another thing entirely but then he's just blasting it around with his mates. He has a few faults as I mentioned above. It's work in progress. He's off 20, we're not talking about one of those seasoned juniors who spends 4hrs/day on the practice ground/chipping green, we're talking about someone who rocks up for a medal once a blue moon with a dozen balls and some second hand clubs. He's a natural. You don't see many in a lifetime, he's only the 2nd I've seen in 20yrs of golfing. But you can knock it.. and me, if you want

Played in a medal with him this evening.... hopefully all the words of wisdom I'd given him in the past couple of weeks was about to pay off.....

.....he was stood on the par5 18th tee 10 shots under his h/cap, before carding a quadruple bogie 9.

We had stern words afterwards!

Still, 6 shots should give him a reasonable cut and I think his 9 gets rounded down to a 7 for h/capping purposes?

The plan is to get him to do it again and trigger an ESR (whatever that is!)

Frighteningly he was close to beating me GROSS
