Was it just me, but did any one else think that Westwoods interviews after his rounds were a bit strange. He didn't seem to be with it, I would say that he really didn't want to be there. Perhaps if it was Hazel asking the questions he might have shown a little bit more enthusiasm.
 
I think he was just a little fed up. 2nd again but with no chance of winnin gand then a round of bland interviews to deal with. He could also have been in some pain from his leg injury and would rather be having treatment than standing there talking about his round
 
Dare I say it, but Lee seems a bit bored by it all to me. Whatever drove him to get fit has fallen by the wayside somewhat. He knows (or might suspect) he can't keep up with someone on a hot 4 days....maybe he's just happy to mooch around being the no.3 golfer in the world and just let fate deal or no deal a major to him.
Just a thought. He's making lorry-loads of money (he's made over $10,000,000), he's playing well, he looks happy enough....good luck to him. It must be SO dull after 15+ years to be "up" for interviews.
 
Being asked incessant inane questions & giving the same inane answers probably wears a little thin after a while.

Murph - I am not so sure; Major winners this year are as follows: Callaway, Callaway, Ping. Westy plays Ping so if the sequence continues must be a shoe-in for the USPGA!!!
 
I detest the new style of questions they ask these days.

How excited were you?
How disappointed are you?
How happy did that make you feel?
How good was that round?
etc etc etc
 
Says he needs to improve but can he? Everyone hits a plateau, Westy is of an age where things will start to go backward soon.

I think it's only his game around the green that's letting him down. Aside from this weekend, his putting has been pretty good on speedy greens recently. It's his shots around the green that are letting him down. He improves that to pick up a couple of shots a tournament (not a massive improvement needed for that, you might argue) and he wins a major. Simple as that :)

I agree he looked a bit out of sorts in his post-round interview, but as people have said, being asked the same question over and over probably gets really tiresome and also dealing with a calf/ankle injury which was probably hurting like hell wouldn't have helped.

Fair play to him for taking second place with one good leg.
 
To be fair to Westwod he was never in this one

And I am not suprised he finds it hard to answer the "you know that thing you want more than anything else in the world, the thing that no matter how much work you put in you always seem to fall short, how does it feel not to win it again" Questions
 
Hate they way that in this country we continually put down our top golfers when they fail to win majors. GB and NI currently have 5 golfers in the worlds top 10, 7 in the top 20, 9 in the top 50 - which is bloody good in my book.

Lets be realistic, Casey and Westwood were long odds to win yesterday given the lead that Oosthuizen had at the start of play and how well he was playing. Now that McDowell has bagged a major (who I personally think isn't as good as either of them as a player) then I believe that it's only a matter of time before Westwood (and indeed Casey, McIlroy et al) win one.
 
I liked his interview on saturday night.
When he said something about having to come from about 9 shots back to win and how it can be done and indeed had been done.
He then started laughing and said that he'd only done it once mind!

It was like he'd been giving the usual answers: anything can happen, it's Louis' to lose, I'll give it my best etc etc and suddenly realised what he'd have to do to win and found it funny.

I say good on him for being not to devastated by not winning and being jovial. There are far too many overly serious payers giving interviews these days.

Aye...Right!!

The guy is superb, could not buy a putt early on to fire him up for the rest of the round BUT I fancy, had he holed a couple, he may have been up there somewhere putting pressure on the winner.

Bob, am I correct in thinking that his putting style is exactly what you describe? His putting 'Y' is so pronounced.

I think you misunderstood my sentiment. What I was trying to say (and I accept it could be way wrong) was that maybe it's not going to happen for Lee. Maybe he knows he's simply not good enough at putting or something else to win when push comes to shove. I wasn't suggesting he's resting on his backside doing nothing. He's rock solid in the comps and must have the best recent major records a.t.m. in the world, but something is clearly not right and I can see why he might be fed up with all the interviews and pressure. I certainly wasn't trying to say everyone else was rubbish, I think you read it the wrong way.
 
Until he sorts out his iffy short game Westwood unfortunately will not win a Major in my opinion. He only needs to be slighly off with his long game and he is in trouble as his short game is not good enough to save him most of the time
 
If he keeps putting himself up high on the leaderboard, sooner or later one will fall into his lap.
9 under round a windy Old Course is decent scoring. He admits it could have been better but it was better than all bar 1 of the other competitors.

But I think the Major will only come if he switches to Mizuno.......... :p :p :p :p
 
What is needed to win a major?

What were people's predictions in January for the four majors this year? Would people have put MacDowell and Oisthousenface down for one each? No. But they won - why?

On form, they wouldn't have got close as it would have appeared that they didn't have the game but they came good.

Monty and Westwood - never won a major - that makes them rubbish according to some on this forum. Totally incorrect. They are both superb golfers who are a credit to themselves, their country and their trade.

Westwood's third in the world - that makes him class in my book. Not too sure how you can knock that - you must be number two or one then..... :(
