I don't get to watch much golf but my biggest wish on the pro tour is that Westwood wins a major or two this year. This text below is from the Express.

And just as Woods threatened to take top spot back almost immediately, Westwood obliterated the Nedbank field by eight shots at Sun City to guarantee starting 2011 as the world’s best golfer.

This is the man who, asked by an air hostess on the way back from South Africa why his tan was so good, replied that he played a bit of golf. “Are you any good?” Pause. “Yes, I’m the best in the world,” he grinned back.

A quality bloke - too right. He seems to be someone who would be perfect fit for a friendly fourball. He would always be in my fantasy fourball - on my side obviously - we would not be throwing balls up to choose sides !

Re: Westwod - A quality bloke

Yes, he seems extremely down to earth, and just down the road from my birth town (Doncaster). Think his faux pas at Sports personality tonight was not shaking hands/ kissing all the other contestants. And that the golf vote was split (I voted for both)

Couldn't believe that either Lee or GMac didn't make the top 3!!

Re: Westwod - A quality bloke

Always seems a nice bloke when he speaks or stories you hear about him. One thing though - to be the best in the wrold surely he has to win a major this year. He can't be another monty.
What do you think that he should do at least one year on the PGA tour. Afterall - 3 of the majors are that side of the pond (Although god only knows why !!!!!)

Quality response. If I was Lee Westwood, it would be the little things like this that make the countless hours of sacrifice worthwhile. He must have a had a quiet little smile on his face all day after that.

Couldn't agree more. By all accounts a genuinely great guy. Classic response to the stewardess too; Woods would've probably tried to jump her bones in the loo!!! :D :D

Saw an interview once with Westwood and Darren Clarke where they said that they would play a four-ball with anyone - irrespective of handicap - just so long as the other two were open to a little wager, and were happy to have a laugh and a joke and a few beers. That sounds like one of our forum meets!!! :D :D

But they have never had to play with Smiffy. I bet if they had, that would read we're happy to play with anyone, as long as it isn't Smiffy.

Re: Westwod - A quality bloke

It must be realley hard for padraig to take,Lee Westwood
ranked number 1 in the world,and he's won 3 majors,life is
not fair.

Oh yea, I'm sure he's crying in his lucky charms every morning.

Padraig was on form on the right weekends to win his three majors.

Lee Westwood has been consistently on form and finishing in the top 10 for the past 2 years. Which is why he's number one.

Simple, really.

Re: Westwod - A quality bloke

Westwood is a top bloke and has twice generously supported charity auctions I've organised. He has definitely played better golf than Harrington over the last three years and so is #1 on merit. I'm sure Westwood would gladly swap his ranking for a major but he'll keep knocking on the door for a while longer. Hopefully he'l levenutally fall over the line

Re: Westwod - A quality bloke

Anybody can win a major if they happen to hit form on the right week (Hamilton/Beem/Curtis/Micheel etc).

It takes a great player to be world no. 1.

I heard from some of the juniors at my club that caddie at Queenwood, that Darren would always have a wager on every game he played and the amount was way more than the likes of us could afford!

I'd be more than happy to play them for £100 :D
