It was my first time at a golf tournament this weekend, and wow what an experiance 1000 times better than I expected and the headache that I perceived around the park and ride system never appeared, it actually worked !

The golf was great and my kids loved it and I will definitely be back next year!

However there was one thing I was really surprised to see it happen but some of the caddies were puffing away on fags walking round, while that doesn't bother me at all I must say I was really surprised to see it, I mean I know they are not sportsman but it for some reason seemed a bit uncomfortable especially when they are blowing smoke into my kids faces waliking from green to tee..

Anyhow wondered if I am being a bit over sensative and wanted to ask others opions ont he matter ?

Well the way you put it, it sounds like this was happening so yes I'd say oversensitive. Unless this actually was how it was happening. In which case you should have punched them.

Wre they actually deliberately blowing smoke into your kids faces, or was they just smoking and some of the smoke may have accidentally drifted on the wind in the general direction of your kids?

i'd be surprised if it was the former, in which case, you're being over sensitive

Absolutely not it was more to the fact that it smells and there were smoking moving from green to tee and the kids where hanging over to high five the players which they all did by the way. It is really me the fact that i was supprused that caddies would smoke while walking up the fairway and from green to tee as it is not the image I would expect from a precessional sportsman of which they are representing.

asbi said in not that bothered as an ex smoker I love the smell of fags but I didn't expect to see it that's all.

Over sensitive in my humble opinion. If we are not going to allow smoking outside then we have to ban it. Simple as that. As we are not about to ban it, we have to allow people to smoke outside.
Also, if someone was to come into your place of work and complain about something you were doing, what would you think?
If MAJ had won and lit up a celebratory cigar, would you still complain?

over sensitive,a lot of the golfers smoke i gave DARREN C a fag at THE OPEN (not smoked for years now),JD used to carry a carton of fags in his bag, people smoke its not a physical game so cant see a problem.

Also as a point of order, it is important to distinguish between the caddies out on Wednesday for the Pro Am, where the Amateurs caddies were provided by Wentworth . And the competition days where obviously the pros use their own caddies which is nothing to do with Wentworth itself.

Whether professional golfers or caddies smoking on tournament days in public and on TV is the right image to convey is another subject, but seeing as recently a footballer was photographed smoking and it got lots of negative press, it is not an image that does golf any favours

I agree the image should be overweight balding men ,dressed in clothes their kids would laugh at and get as many adverts on yourself as possible.:ears:

Just sayin that professional sport and smoking don't normally make good bedfellows.
But as it is outside it is less of a health problem for those around them.

And would I stop Big Mig having his cigar? No blooming way, the man is a god and can do what he likes :)

The OP is way over sensitive. No way would they have been blowing the smoke deliberately and it was probably just the breeze. The focus is on the players and there are some that smoke while playing but the cameramen are always told not to show that. I have no issue with the caddies smoking as they go round.
