Played my last round as a member of the club today. Membership runs out tomorrow and finances have dictated that I've got to hold back on a membership till things improve. This could be several months during which I'm not going to be able to play as much as I'd like.

So my short game, that has taken me 2 years to get back into some semblance of order, is going to suffer again and my chances of getting back into single figures blunted along with my need for a Titleist 906F4 3 wood. It'll all have to wait.

I've got some 2-4-1 vouchers saved up and some of the local courses are not too expensive so I'll still get out but I'm looking twice a month instead of once or twice a week.

So not the happiest bunny tonight...............

I'm like in that situation this year, having just got back into the game and just starting to feel it coming together, the credit crunch and son number two being just days away means that there is no way I will be able to give enough time to warrant joining my club.

So this year is just going to get out as much as I can with Harry Senior and the rest of the roll up and meet up with a few forum members when the chance comes my way.

Sorry to hear that Imurg, the credit crunch is certainly biting eh?

Just a thought, is your club not prepared for this situation, and might they be willing to help out in some way to avoid losing members?
I was having a chat the other week with my club manager about this and he said that the club would be willing to listen to any suggestions but didn't want to publicise it too much, as they still have a business to run.

I think its biting for a lot of us. My choices are very limited too. Looks like I'll either be re-joining the 9 hole at Branston, (£175) or simply a season ticket at Allestree & Derby, (£290) with no actual membership. Simply to try & get some golf/practice in. Though like Imurg may not even be able to stretch that far. If things were a little easier I possibly could re-join Brailsford, but on a 5 day card.

Imurg, hope things pick up for you soon.

I do feel for you, after becoming a member at my course, I couldn't imagine it any other way. DO you have any local ranges with short game area?

Can you chip, picth at local park?

Sorry to hear about your circumstances, I know you live a bit far away, but if you fancy a game one Saturday/Sunday you are welcome to come and play as my guest.

My Club is Crowborough Beacon in East Sussex, it is a great little course, very tough Heathland course Est 1895.

The cost is £23 for a weekend guest round.

Bear it in mind if you want a weekend game sometime.

My Club is Crowborough Beacon in East Sussex, it is a great little course, very tough Heathland course Est 1895.

The cost is £23 for a weekend guest round.

Bear it in mind if you want a weekend game sometime.

It's cheap as a guest of a member. Normal fee is £56 per round Mon-Fri and £66 at the Weekend.

The club has a philosophy of encouraging members to bring guests (by not financially penalising them) while maximising revenue from visitors.

Ahh! Crowborough. The good old days. I can remember phoning Dennis for a teeing off time on a Sunday for myself and 3 mates. Used to be £15.00 per guest if I remember rightly, and it wasn't that long ago. No problem getting a tee time either. If only things were as simple at Highwoods. I've learnt fairly quickly that bagging a teeing off time at the week-end is akin to getting an audience with the Pope.
No fourballs allowed out until after 2.00pm off the first, and the clubs on-line diary shows fixtures for a particular day but with no indication as to what time, and for how long the tee is closed for. There are too many "clubs within the club" all with reserved tee times...and you cannot book a tee time either. All you can do is turn up and hope that the tee is clear.
The stupid thing is that I can phone Lewes (which is a private club) and book a tee time over the phone for a Sunday even though I'm not a member!
