All, after some advice if you've been. Looking at a Italian city break 2/3 nights for my 30th in July with the good lady. Anybody been? Where did you go? Milan/Rome obvious and easy to fly too with easy jet/budget airlines etc. Love the Italian culture, proper Italian food and general musing/shopping.

Thoughts appreciated.

Verona with a day on Lake Garda would be my suggestion.

Verona is excellent with some cracking sights whilst Lake Garda is simply stunning.

My daughter has just come back from Venice and Rome. She liked Venice, but would not go again. Rome she can not wait to go back to.

Venice is great but would suggest it as a 3-4 day trip.

Florence has loads of cultural highlights, and would be a great 2-3 day trip, if thats your bag. (I think you have to fly into Pisa though, and get a bus shuttle).

Rome is stunning and awe inspiring. Verona is lovely and easier paced, top suggestion from Tongo. Florence is also worth a weekend especially if you want to throw in some museums and galleries. I haven't been to Milan or the south so I can't answer for them

I have to agree love Verona. Been a few times. If you do go there let me know and I will get you a must try and see list.

It is a beautiful town and has regular buses to lake Garda

Venice. Stay on Venice Lido, not Lido De Jesolo. 10mins across the lagoon to the city. Easyjet to Marco Polo airport, then water taxi across the lagoon.

Florence is excellent too, as is Rome... Hotel Forum in Rome is just across from the forum, and only a few hundred yards from the colosseum.

Bit further, fly into Catania and stop in Taormina, Sicily.

Milan, fly to bergamo or malpensa which is a trek to get to Milan but is worth it. Gorgeous city with the duomo cathedral one of my favourite places both inside and outside on the top of. Catch the train to Como for the day. Not a massive job to do and a good day out.
Rome, fantastic City and one you will not do in a weekend, expensive and you will want to do again. Do your Homework of where you want to go. Bus tours an excellent idea.
Venice, no other city like it in the world. Gorgeous, love it with along wih Murano and Burano. Easy transfers.
Naples, Dump. unless you travel onto a a amalfi coast, ischia, Capri, etc.
Pisa/Florenece, gorgeous, but may involve driving unless you can sort out transfers.
just seen hobbits post. Get to Taormina as well and get jiggly wi miss biggy it's gorgeous there. Drove around MT Etna in feb and it was stunning

Rome is well worth a short trip

My personal preference would be head to Capri, expensive but worth every penny, been a few times now and will be going back as soon as possible

Rome every time. It exceeds your expectations and is compact enough to see a lot on a week end.

I have worked in Milan many times but find when you move away from the Cathedral area it gets a bit grubby. Garda and Verona are very nice but I would suggest at least a week.
