Wedges.

Just wondering what the general thoughts are on when to change them or how long they actually last seeing as they are probably the most used club in the bag outside of the putter....

I have 2 wilsonstaff TW9 wedges 52 and 56 deg.....
Iv had them since they first came out maybe 5 years ago....I hit them well and know withing a yard or 2 exactly how far i hit each with full and half swings....

But im not sure should i just regrip them and maybe get a pro to resharpen the grooves....They have definitely lost some of their spin since i bought them....

Its either this or shell out on 2 of the new FG Tour wedges or 2 clevelands.

If that is true, then I guarantee new wedges will not improve on that.

Well im not so much looking to change for that reason Leftie....More that i could do with a little more control around the greens....What i mean by that is id like to be able to get aggressive with chip shots so i can get them to bite a little more rather than have them run out too much...

I like playing bump and runs but they arent exactly what you need when you've short sided yourself with very little green to work with....
I do get spin on the ball just not enough.

Iv lost count the amount of times where iv tried to get the ball to bite close to the hole only for it to run past...
Iv tried Vokeys and Clevelands and there is a big difference compared to the Wilsons.

Unless you can play shots like PM, TW, etc (if you could then the rest of your game must be worse than mine) take your medicine. Make sure you get on the short stuff and no worse than 2 putt. And don't be tempted by a blob wedge.

Very few cat 2 players, and even cat 1 come to that, can consistently get the spin and check that they hope for.

Though worth considering/auditioning a 60*. Aptly described btw!

Groove sharpening could be worth investing in - only about a tenner.

And work out why (course management issue) you are short-siding yourself in the first place!

WOW thats some statement, i get shed loads of spin off my irons. In fact to much sometimes.

So i take it that your pretty good at getting on the short stuff from a good distance out say 150 - 200 yards...
Ill always go for the middle of a green unless im trying to get shots back that iv lost over certain holes.....So as you can understand when hitting from distance you Are going to miss greens and you Are going to miss on the short side on occasion....
Have you ever left yourself on the short side of a hole after going for a flag?

I like to take full swings with them and they bite excellently.

Shame they don't do a 64 as that's what I am looking for now for those short flops.

24 h/cap and you want FIVE wedges! Is your course really short?
Would it not be better to learn how to be creative with 2 wedges, a PW and SI before trying to spend your way out of trouble.

No one needs five wedges in their bag surely Just learn to get full use out of the 56° and 60° and you'll be fine. I feel that if you can't currently get full use out of them, then you're not going to get any advantage out of a 64°.

Spend time practising with your current wedges and experiment with them. You'll be surprised how versatile they are and just what can be done with a bit of confidence and commitment.
