my question is this, my my older club the grooves are still in great condition bar the pinched and raised one at the bottom thanks to the stone, is this possible to repair at all.

thanks David

I think a pro can hammer down the extended piece of metal and smooth it off a bit. Take it in and ask the question. They can't fill the hole so it'll never win any beauty awards but if the grooves are still good and its a functional club just stick it in the bag

Hello Dave.... Welcome to the forum...

I am sure with some patience and a bit of time... Clubs could be brought back to a more than useable condition...
I've certainly fettled back to life clubs with similiar damage...

personally id be taking it into the management of the club and asking for some sort of compensation. you pay good money to play, and its impossible to see flints/stones under the surface...

Im sure a simular thing happened at our club and the player was given a new wedge by the pro shop, which was paid for by the club.

My 51 deg gap wedge is is a fare worse state, Used it too many times off the beach at Nairn and hit a big pebble under the sand. If the groves are ok, thats all that matters.

the good news is that the reason it's damaged like this is because of the the soft metal - which is why it's also easy to repair.
personally I would just take it down to my shed ... :)

your current one has lost material, which would require a different repair depending on your objectives.

If it were mine I'd just use it as it is. If I hit the ball with the leading edge a small hole in the club is going to be the least of my worries.

I can understand the frustration of the damage done to your club after such a a short time but if it is still working why worry?

If you get it fixed up it'll look nicer but perform the same - and it'll just as likely hit another stone and end up the same way again.

Certainly worth raising with the club though as golf is going to get expensive if wedge repairs and replacements become too frequent due to excessive stones in the bunkers! Might put punters off!

The dent can be dressed using hammer,i seem to hit stone in the bunker almost every time i play a shot from the sand,so i can appreciate how much it pee's people off.
On the subject of taking the matter up with the club/management,i took a gouge from the sole of my 6 and 7 iron when playing shots from the MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY !!! at Stonebridge Golf Club (no pun intended with the name). My complaints fell on deaf ears.

the chrome one is still pefectly fine, going by the rate at which its eating balls the face is fine just unpleasent to look at, the second darker one has that pinched bottom groove and isnt currently functional, going to ask the pro at the weekend if i can make it down

can't see that either of them have damage that would ever affect them in play - however, as often highlighted, golf is 80% (or whatever) in the head; so do what you feel best.
