Following on from a thread I post earlier in march.

I've done it! I've booked a wedge fitting in with my Pro tomorrow. :D

I think I've decided to take a wedge out as well. I had PW,52,54,60. I think I'm going to go with PW,52,58.
I'm working on a limited budget also and I think I might invest in a driving iron later on in the year.

What were your experiences with custom fitting wedges?

looking forward to what clubs will suit me best.

I've had a fitting for wedges before but you need to be off the grass as I find the mats spin up too much. Will give you gapping but not true distance. 3 wedges will leave you big gaps, I carry pw then vokey 50 56 60

Why will there be big gaps. My PW is 48 and I carry 52 and 58. Not big gaps at all

I assume the pro has GC2 or trackman to give you the ideal numbers. Enjoy the process but don't forget to then look at bounce and grinds

Wedges must be one of the hardest things to get fitted properly. IMO getting the right sole for your swing style is the hard bit. Once you find the right one, stick with it and make your new wedges become your most versatile clubs in your bag.

Just got back from my fitting - it was great.

I now have the Titleist SM6 Design - 52 - F Grind - 12 bounce and a 58 S Grind 10 bounce

I was hitting them pure and I couldn't believe the difference compared to my current wedges. Fantastic. can't wait to get out there and play! :)

Did you do this on grass? how long did it take? ive got one booked for titleist thursdays so curious what the process was like if you dont mind sharing.

Yeah I did it on grass - it was very useful.
Think about what you want out of your wedges, I got asked 3 things about distance control, turf interaction and control.

It was good though - basically we went through all the grinds of the wedges, talked about gapping and the bounces.
I wanted to focus on around the green control - so we went round the green/bunkers playing variety of shots with different wedges. I found in the 58d the S grind was the best - the control of the ball was good and able to play from a variety of lies.
The 52d I got in an F grind with a 12d bounce. The pro explained that was standard really.

But the difference between certain grinds and clubs is unreal - I never realised the differences. I tried a 52d with 4bounce - my god is hard to hit.

You'll enjoy the experience - after you'll realise why titleist wedges are the best. So much thought put into the process. Well worth the money (I paid 105 a club)
