Do people seriously use this lot? Just put my car reg in to their website purely out of interest. The offer they came back with was virtually half the trade in value! And thats before you take it down to them and they start picking holes in it and knocking a bit more off.

I used them on my last car. Got £1k more than I could have even if I sold privately. I'm just about to sell my current car. Under valued it by nearly £2k.
They seem to like sub £5k Motors over newer prestige cars

I'm selling a beautiful Alfa GT with a top spec and they offered me just shy of £2k under bottom book price and as above, thats before they start knocking the price down for minor paint chips and stuff that normal wear and tear would cover.

Wife used it to move on a car she had. Tried to sell it privately but got chancers who saw imaginary things wrong with it and tried to knock money off what was already a very decent price. So eventually took it to them lot just to be shot of it and to be fair they gave her a half decent price.

Gave me a very reasonable price for my Honda crv and barely knocked anything off for chips, wear n tear etc. does what it says on the tin, might not get top dollar, but it's hassle free, quick and a guaranteed sale.

Tried mine out of interest the other day (only just bought it so not looking to sell) and they actually offered £250 more than i bought for it. Although still over £1k less than i could get privately

The day after I bought my hearse, I chugged the plate through their site for a laugh. I paid two grand less than the next nearest one in price on autotrader, so I got a reasonable deal, and we buy any car would have offered me three grand less than I paid, or five grand less than what equivalent cars were going for.

All that tells you is that they don't really want it.

and there is another similar 'service' recently come to my notice through ads. I'll call it 'We buy any house.com' with somewhere in the small text on screen or that I've heard very swiftly mentioned is words to the effect that the offer you'll get won't be (anything like) the market price. Strikes me as yet another attempt to prey on folks in financial trouble with little care about the mess the seller might find themselves in if they do sell through such a company. Rapacious and unscrupulous rip-off merchants IMO.

I would not go that far. As in our case the car people did us a favour by taking it. And you could also argue for the house people, that the market price for a house is basically what it will sell for. And if a house is not selling then the reason is mostly that is is priced too high. So the price the house company pays for it is the market value.

Yes - you are right. And yes - maybe a little hyperbole over my dislike of such companies :)

Used them to get rid of a car that was an absolute dog - wouldn'thave felt comfortable selling it privately. In two years it had spent 13 months either in the garage getting repaired or sat on the drive waiting for the dealer to pick it up. I knew what the next part was that was needed to, hopefully finally, repair it but wasn't prepared to risk any more money on the heap.

Did I get anywhere near Glasses Guide price? Not a million miles away. Even after they'd given it a good inspection, and seeing the warning lights they still coughed up. I was ecstatic.

Would I use them again? Maybe, depending on the circumstances.
