I've been playing golf for 2 months and I have a few lessons with a so called pro, costing £43.50 an hour.

I was really struggling to hit the ball consistently.

So after reading some articles about 'tension in your swing', I tried using my arms less (if that makes sense).

And low and behold I've been hitting the ball really well. And I can even drive 300 yards and almost straight every time.

My complaint is that shouldn't (SHE) the pro have told me to do this sooner?
What a waste money.

As a beginner she should have have started you with the basics. Stance, posture, grip, alignment, ball position and arm set up.

Stiff or tense arms are not good in a golf swing.

Finding a good pro can do wonders for your game. but don't settle on one your not 100% happy with - be prepared shop around until you find a good one - they are usually the ones that are always fully booked!

Is it really tension that is the problem. Have you been working on the drills and practicing. In my opinion there is little point having a lesson if you aren't prepared to put the work in on the range to make the swing changes feel natural and get a feeling for how the swing feels and works once the modifications are working. The course isn't the place to try and do this. So many people go to a pro looking for a quick fix and then don't use the changes and revert back at the first sign of problems. A swing change can take a few months to get right.

If you are new then your pro should have gone through the basics with you giving you tips and drills on each bit. If you think tension is an issue mention it to them as most will be happy for feedback and to take another look.
