I'd have drawn 2 little dotts on it, with the words have a nice day further down in red Sharpie, then carve a smile under the dotts as I thin my most lofted wedge through the cover hitting it back to him.

i would of not hit it back to him but whack it off the course. i actual did hit through a group bout 25 years ago ibut t was my Metal work teacher at school a real prat. he wasnt happy so hit my ball towards the nearest field but it rebounded off a tree and nearly took his head off. God we laughed i nearly wet myself

No offense buddy why would you even feel bad about this?
they was being douches, why would you feel bad that they took some bad shots and liked it.
Ive walked back down the fairway and kick off when people take there tee shots early

Sounds like a lot of immature and inexperienced golfers on this thread !!

I presume as the OP doesn't mention playing partners that he was playing by himself. If this was the case then hang around till the 2 ball gets to their balls, explain that you're getting held up as the course is so busy, and suggest that you play on together as a three.

By all means give them a gentle rebuke i.e. " A bit quick teeing off there guys, I'm getting held up as well you know." Then offer to play on together.

You might just make 2 new friends and future playing partners instead of creating animosity.

I have to agree with Laing, i have had this done to me before and not once did i think of interfering with someone else's golf ball either join up with them or at least say to them you nearly hit me there can you at least wait until i am out of range next time.

I would have picked his ball up, and written a nasty word on it with my sharpie.

Funny enough I played with my son and his mates on Saturday, he was in the group behind and he drove through us twice and I wrote OUCH! on his ball with my felt tip. I genuinely believe he didn't know how far he could hit as he only plays 3 or 4 times a year.

This could've been you..

The only decent comment on this thread.

And all the people that said they'd hit it back at them, well your all talking out your backsides

Happened to me a few times. First time I let it go as a mistake on their behalf....second time I make them aware they are out of order and a 3rd time will be not be tolerated.
Never had to act on a 3rd....!

Or doesn't feel like waiting for his inheritance ;)

Tend to agree Richy.

Has anyone here actually ever done this mythical teeing it up and hitting it back at the tee? Was there not a moment while the ball was in the air when you relaised that if you hit them, it would be deemed a deliberate attack, leading to GBH or even manslaughter charges if you hit someone?

I know we can all get hot under the collar, but is it worth potentially doing time?

No I totally disagree with this! Say whatever you want to the guy, punch him on the nose for all I care but I would not touch someone else's ball. You broke the code as much as him.

Agree with Alex,

I know its annoying when people play up your ar$e... As I am new to the game I regularly think there is no chance I will reach anywhere near them sods law comes in and I spank it further then they are. I will always apologise and make a joke of not thinking I had that in me... I wont attempt it again that round and would only do it when I thought they were well passed what I was capable of hitting.

I have no problem taking my hybrid over to say hello but would never touch someones ball...

And punching in the nose is within the code ?? as much as id prefer your option Alex , i do reckon it might land him in a touch of bother ,

My point was not to go and be violent as I said "for all I care". What I really mean is don`t be suck a puss and step on the ball, talk to the guy, be angry with the guy but don`t break the code/rules just because he has. I would not tamper with someone else's ball as I would seriously hate it if someone did it to me. Golf is much more important than any of this and I am pretty shocked at how many people have backed this action.... its actually pretty worrying!

The guy really only made one error, if the OP had made a clear move to the middle of the fairway and put his hands on his hips the point would have been made.

Bit pee`d off about this now really.... I thought we were better than this as a community.

Always find it very hard to keep my cool when someone's fired a ball at me, been hit by one before and it wasnt pleasant.

Standing on the ball would probably be one of my least aggresive responses, so I think you done well.
