Was a 10 second penalty enough for this??????

I was a race director for 14 years, I have directed thousands of races and I would have black flagged and disqualified Vettel. No problem with the first bump as that was an error on Vettel`s part but the secondary indecent was as Ian described it.... A deliberate attack. IMO no need for any penalty in other events but a DQ in that event.

i agree. i wish vettel put him in the tyre wall. he definitely brake tested him!!

This sums up the issues we have with social media and forums etc. People post their opinions as facts and people believe them without checking. He definitely brake tested him!! You are definitely talking out of your arse!! Could I be wrong???

For me all it does is dilute your opinion on anything you post on the forums, people will look at anything you say and think, he's talking out of his arse again even if you aren't.

get off your high horse. its my opinion and i couldn't care less about what you think. and I'm absolutely devastated that it taints what you think of my future posts (how will I sleep tonight) Hamilton is a spoilt little boy. i cant stand him and I've met him twice.

No doubt viewing figures for the next race will be up ..................... a great result for an otherwise unexciting sport.

What exactly does being a spoilt little boy have to do with anything in this case?! Rulings by emotion or facts...

Anyway there was clearly only one offender in this incident. Vettel made an error, a misjudgement having been caught on the previous restart. That was forgivable- these things happen.
What was completely out of order was his reaction and subsequent action in the heat of the moment. He obviously thought he was in the right (later disproven by data feedback), but one would hope that he learns to let those in charge dish out punishment rather than engaging in a fairly pathetic macho car to car square up. Very silly, I was surprised he wasn't DQ'd to be honest but I'm not au fait with the F1 rulebook!

Bottled and all this guff about a DQ having an effect on the title race is crap. Had it been the other way round Hamilton would have been chucked out of the race and probably had a ban on top. F1 bottled it again

I totally agree. There was only one person at fault here. VETTEL. Some people need to take off their blinkers and look at the facts. But as someone said, why let facts get in the way of their personal feelings towards an individual.

Apparantly he is on 12 points out of a total 15 point allowance so the next offence is a one race ban for Vettel - expect some drivers to start winding him up

12pts?!!

The guy obviously is a loose cannon. In a sport that can be so dangerous, idiots like Vettel should be hit with bans. And if there are a number of bans applied to the same person they should be kicked out of the sport.

But there is facts to disprove your opinion, can you not appreciate that maybe your opinion is based off hatred for hamilton but actually vettel was in the wrong here? If you cant then you need to grow up.

Vettel was out of order and by have 12pts out of 15 on his "license" shows that he has previous. DQ and 1 race ban seems fitting, massive bottle job from the F1 brass.

Agree that it should have been a black flag + 1 race ban at a minimum. Was also for Hamilton getting something because of being unnecessarily slow behind the SC but it turns out he was only 3 kmh down from the previous SC lap. No brake check or lift from Lewis at all.

the FIA are saying they may charge vettel. I'll believe it when I see it

Where are you reading that? Its almost unheard of for retrospective action... You would almost not want it to happen as it just means that if enough noise is made in the press then things will be done. It would be a little Mickey Mouse. Should have been done right the first time but they are always so worried about "the show" rather than the sport.

They were still behind the safety car weren't they? There was no reason for Vettel to be so close in that case. If Hamilton makes a mistake then Vettel would have been straight into the back of him. We all know of times when we get too close to other normal road users and we are not going at their safety car speeds - so it would be very easy for a tap to occur.

What investigation into the causes. Ignoring the first contact which everyone is likely happy enough to concede was accidental and with a penalty similar to what he ended up getting, the cause of the second is Vettel got angry and steered into the side of Hamiltons car, what investigation exactly is necessary? One look at an onboard and everyone sees him turn the wheel.

And that my old China is as good as it gets when it comes to describing said incident.
The ops question " was 10 seconds enough". No it was not, Not by a long shout. In essence it was road rage by Vettel who screwed up big style. Only mirrored by the race stewards who screwed up. Bottom line for me is he should of been black flagged. He wasn't. His points for the last race should be wiped off. He should receive a ban. Whether you hate Hamiltons guts or not. What folk are happy to ignore or are oblivious to is that Vettel has done this before, at speed.
If this is not sorted then a dangerous precedent is set.
My Concern is that Jean Todt ( ex Ferrari, vettels current team) is the one that can call for this to be re examined. Split loyalties mefinks.

Had this been the other way round Hamilton would have been DQ'd had the points struck off and a ban. Because Vettel is in with a chance of winning the title nothing will happen and the F1 powers that be will be shown to be as inept as the stewards at the race. They will look into it to appease the discontented voices in the media but will baulk ant any drastic action. I hope I'm proved wrong though. Won't hold my breath
