is it allowed? I know you're not allowed to play a practice round before it but would you be allowed to walk it before a tournament.

IE checking distances etc

It would depend on the rules of the comp. It may be the course is closed to allow greenstaff to prepare the course for the event and they don't want people walking about.

There isn't any Rule of Golf that prohibits this, so it'd be covered by Comp rules.

I would say 99% yes.... even the tour caddies walk the course for yardages..... but as above I guess there MIGHT be a local rule in place (although unlikely).

you are fine

there are a whole lot of things you can do before your start a stipulated round

there are things you can't do

all are stipulated in the rules and rule 0 applies if in doubt -

Rule 0

If it doesn't state I can't then I can.
