Has anyone had one at Titleist to find the correct wedges for their game etc? I feel as if I need some Vokey's in my life but the grind options are blowing my mind. I believe I know what 'style' of wedge player I am...but does a fitting really help, or have people just bought 'blind' off t'interweb etc?

I feel I should weigh in here because we use the same irons and may have the same aesthetic preferences. I was recently after some new wedges and considered MP-T5s and Vokeys before I came across a thread on here about ICY Golf.

I phoned the proprietor up and he invited me to a session at a range where he basically gave me a 2 hour pitching lesson before I had even decided to buy anything from him. He even talked me out of buying 3 wedges from him, saying that I only needed 2 and could actually get away with 1 if the right grind was used (so he lost out on income in preference to helping my game). The pitching lesson led to my short game improving massively and was given without any strings.

The clubs he produces are customised for you in terms of lie angle, loft, shaft length, grip, etc… and the grinds are custom also. He will even stamp your initials or nickname into each wedge if you want him to.

All that for about 60/70% of the price of an off-the-shelf wedge from Mizuno, Ping, Vokey, etc...

My advice would be to find the website and give Ian a call because the clubs really are top notch (even if it's just to have a chat).

My next wedges will likely be ICY...

I think HawkeyeMS had his Vokey wedges fitted at Titleist last year, might be worth a PM if he does not pop into this thread.

Have you considered looking at Cleveland? The new 588 RTX wedges apparently create massive spin numbers, and come very highly recommended.

I remember looking at the RTX wedges...but there is just something about a Vokey. To me, I consider them a treat as they are held in such high opinions of people, and a club I have never tried, so really want to know what the fuss is about!

I have had vokeys In the past and of the opinion that they may look ok but they don't suit my game.
I found them to feel heavy in the head and felt that the club head was always getting away from me. Don't get me wrong it wasn't all the wedges fault, but since changing from them I have tried callaway mizuno ping and now Cleveland. I feel a lot happier with Cleveland and have looked at the rtx 2.0 as my next purchase courtesy of Santa clause :)
I would love to go to see Ian about th icy wedges but living in northern Ireland makes it too much.
I wouldn't just set yourself up for vokeys be open minded. Good luck.

There's really not a lot in it tbh, except the Clevelands are slightly cheaper, but according to the reviews more spinny. When I finally get round to sorting my wedge gapping out, as the new Nike's have ****ed with my wedge gapping, I'll be getting 588 RTX's, a 50, 54 and 58. Also, as JT77 said, you need to be open minded when trying out new clubs. I had it in my head that I wanted G30's, but on testing, the Covert 2.0's performed so much better.

I was custom fitted by Titleist for my SM5s earlier on in the year. Like others I was confused by the loft/grind options, but I must say I am delighted with them. Measured on the launch monitor the spin speed of the SM5s was double that of my SM4s which were a wee bit worn and the distances are slightly longer for the same loft. Well worth the fitting as what was specified was not what I thought I needed.
