8 decent golfers planning to visit SA (Cape Town area) in Feb 08 and looking for and advice, tips etc on where to play, where to stay, whether to use tour operator or do our home thing.

Golf around Cape town is cracking. Pearl valley was a favourite, but also played Spier, Stellenbosch and Erinvale. I would be happy to play any of these again really.

Hello Travel Editor here. Set between the sea and Table Mountain and surrounded by vineyards Cape Town is one of the most spectacular settings in the world to play golf. Here's some information about where to stay, play and eat. As murphthemog has pointed out Pearl Valley is definitely one to play but book in advance as it's in a private gated village with security guards on the entrance. There's also some more information on the Garden Route in the Travel Section should you wish to head east.

Where to stay
4 Rosmead: a quiet hotel on the slopes of Table Mountain away from the tourist bustle.
Port View: pretty townhouse on the waterfront, perfect for golfers on a budget.

Where to eat
Café Africa: authentic African cuisine with live music. Great value.
Le Quatier Francais: Cape fusion of African and French cuisine.
The Codfather: worth a mention for the name alone. Great seafood, no menu. Just choose at the counter and they’ll cook it how you like it.
Emily’s at the Waterfront: taste the Malaysian influence from the Cape’s days on the spice route.
Long Street: bars, cafés and clubs are open till the small hours and are popular with the locals.
