Value

I pay £950 plus a £50 bar levy. I intend to play at least once a week once the weather improves.
I joined a club for a number of reasons - to get an official handicap, to play in competitions, to play a decent course that is members only at the weekend and to have the ability to grab 3/6/9 holes as and when required. Add to that access to the practice facilities, the club pro and his advice/expertise and the various social things organised and I believe that it's money well spent.
It does require a commitment and it's a commitment that I've only recently been willing to make.

We get €150 bar leve as part of our subs, since I don't drink and drive and only had the odd coke after playing, had a large amount left towards the end of the year. Was able to bring three mates to play my course and then give them free beer for the night.

That will have been a couple of pints each then at Dublin prices :D.
Is it still as expensive was there 2 years ago and it was 7 euro for a pint of Guinness

That was Temple Bar mate tourist hole i know, cheapest and the best was Stackstown GC 4 Euro so not to bad and a good course as well

Depends where you go Steve some places in the city center still pretty bad but most sports clubs are around €4-4.50 for a Guinness.

Rounds at my home club came out around £6 per round which I think is pretty reasonable for a private members club. When you consider the local municipals charge £12 or probably more these days for a weekend game then being a member is pretty good value if you play more than once a week.

I then tend to spend a fortune on opens and other green fees though! E.g. 2 x St Andrews Old Course plus Kingsbarns was about £400 or more than 50% of my annual subs.
