At home we currently use a corded upright vacuum cleaner.
It's very good at cleaning but is a pain to take up and down the stairs due to the weight and it's almost unusable on the stair carpet.
Mrs Slime is nagging me about getting a cordless vac.
She vacuums the house most days!
So my questions are thus;
1) Persevere with our current one
2) Buy a Dyson
3) Buy a G-Tech

All advice gratefully received with thanks.
 
Buy a Sebo. Yes its an upright mains powered, but they're the best there is and it's commercial quality. The flexible hose can be extended to allow for stair vacc'ing. The beater brush is also powered to be set to the optimum height depending on the flooring you have.

Oh yes, Dyson is just plastic and will break.
The G-Tech ones are ok, but not really sure on how long it will last or continue to collect the ddust and dirt like when its new.
 
Get a second corded one. Leave one at the top of the stairs and the other at the bottom. Each could be used to do half the stairs and there would be no carrying it up and down the stairs. The added benefit being that there would be no need to carry one upstairs to do the bedrooms.

We've had a G-tech for three months now. Brilliant bit of kit. No faff to use so it gets used more. Even the kids will use it. One charge will do the house three times and it is as strong as an vacuum I've used in terms of suction. Easy to charge, easy to empty.

Only downside is you don't have certain attachments, e.g. a hose for stairs, you have to get those separately. Otherwise highly recommended.
 
We went for it big time with the Dyson V8 Absolute. Its a silly amount of money for a vacuum, but god is it good! Can do our 4 bed house on one charge with a mix of carpet and hard floor (you do change the head, its easy) the powered stairs attachment is brilliant and makes it a doddle to vacuum the stairs.

We got a black friday deal, but it was still over 400 quid... but we dont regret it.
 
My wife has now to watch out for lymphodema following recent lymph node surgery - she must be wary of stressing or lifting heavy weights with her right arm. Our Henry weighed a ton and was bust - so we invested in a Dyson V6 cordless. That's great - but limited duration on a charge - and so recently she bought a Vax Air lightweight (corded). The combination of the two looks just right. Both very lightweight. Dyson cordless for quick vacuum, the stairs and for the car - the more powerful but still very light Vax for more extended vacuuming. Though quite expensive neither is a top of the range model - and crucially for us - both are lightweight.
 
I agree the V6 runtime is it's only fault.

It gets used daily so paying for itself as you use it for pretty much every mess.

It's always at full charge too as it just sits in its caddy on the wall till we need it.
 
As I said in the other 'technology' thread one of the best things in recent times, for making life easier, is the improvements in battery life... When/if our Sebo coughs its lot we won't be looking beyond replacing it with a cordless jobbie... She already has a small handheld lithium powered one which she describes as the best thing ever for clearing up the debris post grandsons visit...

When my old lawnmower died a death I replaced it with a Rotak cordless one... Does make life a whole lot easier than all the phaff of extension leads etc etc... And, a 'fake' lawn wasn't an option... Love the smell of fresh cut grass me...

not me, i love a bit of vacuuming.

my advice, get two. we have a big Dyson for the main rooms with carpet and a handheld cordless for the stairs and doing round hard to get to places. We have two dogs that leave hair everywhere they go so handy for picking that up especially in the kitchen where we have tiles
 
The funniest thing about this thread is Rooter saying how good his Dyson is but in his signature it says dusty golf clubs :rofl:
