Vacuum conundrum.

The funniest thing about this thread is Rooter saying how good his Dyson is but in his signature it says dusty golf clubs

Mrs wont let me use the dyson on the car either, she cleans the dyson with baby wipes! I have my own industrial vacuum for man tasks. Vacuuming golf clubs is a step too far though..

I may be making this up however I was told this by someone who works in health and safety. All these new super duper Hoover's that claim improved suction power etc are a load if tosh.

All vacuums need to be passed by strict health and safety testing and no vacuum can be powerful enough to suck a child's eye out of it's socket!!!!

Don't shoot the messenger!

Feel sorry for the poor children in the quality control dept they test those on...

As far as I know, that's myth. They are now goverend by their energy use as depicted by the EU, which is why most now are weaker than they used to be.
It's their dust collection and filtration that makes the difference now.
And it's "vacuums", Hoover is just a trade name.:)

I do cleaning most of the time and it really helped me when my husband bought me this Dyson Motorhead Cordless Vacuum. I asked him to buy this when I saw the features at https://www.vacuumtop.com/best-cordless-vacuum/. As the owner of a previous model Dyson, I was looking for something smaller with which I could do small jobs at home that the bigger machine was not good for. The DC59 Motorhead Digital Slim is a vacuum from the future. It even sound futuristic when you press that trigger the first time. It is amazing how much power is in a device that is so light. Because it is so light, maneuverable and able to get into tight corners it seriously reduces the amount of time needed to vacuum the house. I don't need to move as much stuff around and it is a champ when it comes to stairs or dusting baseboards. I was amazed at how much dust and dirt it was able to suck up in a short period of time.

We've had a G-tech for three months now. Brilliant bit of kit. No faff to use so it gets used more. Even the kids will use it. One charge will do the house three times and it is as strong as an vacuum I've used in terms of suction. Easy to charge, easy to empty.

Only downside is you don't have certain attachments, e.g. a hose for stairs, you have to get those separately. Otherwise highly recommended.

Most annoying thing about G-Tech is the bloke on the adverts

We have two Dysons & a G Tech. The Dysons rarely get used now. Customer service is excellent. A couple of months after we got the G Tech part of the filter assembly cracked. It could have been an accident or a manufacturing fault. I rang customer service, having, as usual, omitted to register the warranty. They immediately said they'd put the part in the post & it arrived three days later.

The wife & daughter, who do all the hoovering after our dog & two cats, love the G Tech

At home we currently use a corded upright vacuum cleaner.
It's very good at cleaning but is a pain to take up and down the stairs due to the weight and it's almost unusable on the stair carpet.
Mrs Slime is nagging me about getting a cordless vac.
She vacuums the house most days!
So my questions are thus;
1) Persevere with our current one
2) Buy a Dyson
3) Buy a G-Tech

All advice gratefully received with thanks.

Get a new wife... Black Friday deals available on Mail Order ones and some of them can vacuum as well

Fought the misses off a while ago when she was taken by the ads for those light weight ones at stupid money. We still use our 15 year old Electrolux 13OO. Cracking thing. Very powerful. Plus we've got an American Henry type thing upstairs at 1500 that I acquired from work 5 years ago. Very noisy. Just how much sucking power do you need to remove fluff?

While you need a good “suck”, it’s the “blow” that matters as well, and for that filtration is probably more important. It’s no good sucking all the rubbish up, but just blowing it out into the air behind you.
A good vacuum has good air movement but also good filtration, and I don’t really include bagless systems in this.

We went for it big time with the Dyson V8 Absolute. Its a silly amount of money for a vacuum, but god is it good! Can do our 4 bed house on one charge with a mix of carpet and hard floor (you do change the head, its easy) the powered stairs attachment is brilliant and makes it a doddle to vacuum the stairs.

We got a black friday deal, but it was still over 400 quid... but we dont regret it.

We bought one of these too the other week. As vacumns go, it is awesome. Also, no problem doing our 4 bed house on one charge.

I spoke too soon, the Electrolux blew up on the 23rd. So a trawl around the net brought up the Hoover Freedom for £90. Got it from Argos yesterday. It's sucked up half our carpets!!!!!!!! Cracking thing. I can't see it lasting 15 years though.
