Utterly frustrated tonight

I'm utterly frustrated tonight - was at the range this morning and played nine holes this afternoon - I've been having lessons about once a month since October and a month ago I was hitting the ball better than I ever have, but I've struggled with the changes from the last two lessons, They've helped me rid of the over the top stuff - I can see the benefit of the changes and why I have to bed them in - but it's been a month with little reward in term of my ability to hit the golf ball.

What's really getting me is that after six years of pretty much the same set of clubs in my bag I'd decided that I was going to change everything except my putter once I'd got to a point where I was consistent enough that a custom fit would last me.

Had a trip to Carnoustie golf shop at lunchtime and a chat with the pro about what custom fitting involved - Although I fancy Ping G25 irons and driver I told him it wasn't set in stone and I'd like to have a go with some Mizzies as well - he told me that would be no problem but we agreed there was no point in getting fitted until my swing was at the stage where there weren't going to be any major changes - I don't think I'm at that point yet.

So I've got a swing which isn't working properly (for the moment) and in the next couple of weeks I'll have the money sitting here for a full new bag of goodies, which I can't buy.

Then wait a bit. Or you are wasting your money. It's the way it is, and I'm in a similar position to be honest. Patience, deferred gratification, etc.

Having bought G25's when my swing was in a state of flux and regretting the decision I would say hold fire. They are a great club and I could hit them but they are uncompromisingly ugly in the lower clubs. My advice would be to keep working on the swing until you get in a position you and your pro are happy with. It opens up a lot more club options (I25, TM TP's, Cally APex, Mizzy's etc). Use the money to play some decent courses instead

Slightly OT but wondered whats the Carnoustie Golf shop like? I assume from seeing their E-bay listings that they have quite a stock of lightly used second hand stuff?

On one hand its good the pro isnt trying for an easy sale:thup:

On the other hand he could help you choose a set that suits you now and might help you when making any changes. Your swing will go through lots of change over the years, so when do you actually get the set you want?

Quite decent - second hand stuff was in a seperate room so I didn't see it though

Yeah they have an Ebay shop but good guys to deal with and have an indoor fitting bay using flightscope i think ,big Ping and Mizuno fitters up here.

Have heard Monifieth is class-old clubs or new you'll do well to shoot a good score there!

P.S. G25 Driver is good IMO and a few recent tests have rated it highly.

Have the G25 Driver as best I've hit in a long time, have so much confidence now in my driving.

Having played with Ping Eye2 clubs for fifteen years before I got my current Callaway set I like the look of the irons on the G25s - I've got a lot of nice courses lined up to play this year too, most of them at bargain basement prices - Cruden Bay for £15 for example

Good pro not trying to make a sale , best time to buy is at the end of the summer after having your lesson then spent the winter getting use to them ready for the next season, if it bothers you not then do it when you feel you are playing well and scoring good ......................EYG
