Unusual food combos

Years ago, at our golf club, there was a fashion for having scones with jam & cheese. It became so popular that you had to inform the kitchen staff if you wanted your scone without cheese. I still like my scones that way.

I don't get the, you must have this wine with that attitude.
Drink what you like with whatever you like to eat for me.
Some wines and foods just clash.
But I'd happily have Rare Steak in mushroom sauce with a gutsy Chardonnay, if maybe not a fresh Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc. I remember getting whole fillets of Argentinian beef from Swindon Market and making Beef Wellington for my 'Whites only' wife.
It's also very much about the sauce/dressing. Vinaigrette completely destroys my ability to taste wine.
Red wine overpowers most fish though.

Pork with an apple sauce
Pineapple on a ham & cheese pizza

(I know its flipin mental!)

I mix green chilli paste with tomato sauce to go with most meat & carb food

I grew up in a house where mayonnaise was considered an affront to my parents' working class roots.
Salad cream was favoured over mayonnaise because it was about 2p cheaper.
Then I married into a family of doctors, who were willing to throw their money at previously undiscovered luxury foods such as olive oil, peppers and avocados, which I honestly hadn't eaten until my mid 20s.
Now I enjoy eating mayo with cooked vegetables - especially cauliflower. Dad thought I was nuts until he tried it.
