Tashyboy is happily retired, ish. White middleish class. Bottom line in a little bubble.

Anyway I have read with great interest that UNICEF have donated £25K to one council to feed Britain’s Kids. Jacob Reece Mogg has said it is the lowest form of point scoring and that UNICEF should be ashamed. Labour have said that JRM should be ashamed. Suffice to say it’s kicking off.
I am genuinely interested to know if it really is that bad in the Uk re kids going hungry. Am not bothered in a political side of the argument in anyway shape or form. But are some aspects of our society failing to the extent that Rashford and UNICEF need to get involved To feed some of our kids.

Fragger keep yer eye on this thread please.

Our local Community Centre is helping more families than ever and that includes feeding kids outside of school term, how much of the increase is down to the pandemic I don’t know.

But there’s a lot of people needing more help than ever.

Edit: The response to him from UNICEF suggests it’s a lot more than just 25K to one Council.

Responding to Jacob Rees-Mogg’s comments in the Commons, Anna Kettley – who is the director of Unicef UK’s programmes and advocacy – said: “Unicef UK is responding to this unprecedented crisis and building on our 25 years’ experience of working on children’s rights in the UK with a one-off domestic response, launched in August, to provide support to vulnerable children and families around the country during this crisis period.

“In partnership with Sustain, the food and farming alliance, over £700k of Unicef UK funds is being granted to community groups around the country to support their vital work helping children and families at risk of food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic.”

There is a history of odious politicians over the decades/centuries but he'd definitely be in the top 3. Everything that comes out of his mouth I find annoying, sometimes offensive (and I have conservative political tendencies). Wish there was a way he could be ousted from the his post

'China sends a space module to the moon and it returns with rock samples. The UK sends multi millions in aid to China'

'If my children were hungry then I would starve. No responsible adult would eat while their children were hungry'

'JRM or < Enter anyone you wish to point a stick at>

is to blame for

<Enter anything you want to point a stick at>'

There are as many of these analogies as stars in the sky and it's so easy to pick one out to suit an agenda. The poor, the rich, the greedy, the kind will always be with us. The best we can do is help each other where possible and if we want more than that then do something about it.

I have a slight issue with a lot of these charities donating money/food/clothing etc to various groups all around the world. I understand that we need to address the immediate problem of people going hungry but we seem to donate millions every year to big charities and nothing seems to change- the next year we are asked to donate again. Surely the charities should also be working with the powers that be to solve the root causes into why these people are having problems and look to solve these.
It is not just in this country, think Band Aid, etc that doesn’t seem to have solved a whole lot of problems in Africa

I r
Unicef and Rashford doing a great job at reminding folk what is important in life.
Starving kids living close to areas where it costs £500,000 to buy a 3 bed basic home.
That's not right.
I expect Rashford has a house worth more than that.

I'm not sure what your point is getting at, would it make you feel better if kids were starving near cheaper houses.

No one in their right mind wants children being hungry but are many kids really starving in this country.

Maybe not starving as in African famine starving. But yes, there are lots of children going hungry in this country. For many complex reasons.

A child being fed by McDonalds isn't going hungry.

We have a drive in. Every night it has backed up traffic. https://www.getreading.co.uk/news/r...acknell-mp-pledges-tackle-congestion-18395828

Ridiculous and I am sure there are regulars feeding there kids most evenings. It can't be right and for the cost of a takeaway several (or more) times a week, buy some proper food and feed them properly. Is it a generation thing as well as an economic one (especially in a Covid 2020) and someone who grew up on oven chips and ready meals then pass that down to their own kids and if so how do you break that cycle
