UKIP

Is that a bit like Scotland not wanting Trident or to participate in the Afgahn or Iraq wars but Whitehall overruling them.

You will have to win the independence referendum first and current opinion polls suggest that may not be very likely.

On the matter of Scottish independence and UKIP. Why are the Scottish Nationalists so worried about Scotland's membership of the EU if the vote goes their way? Why do they object to being run by Whitehall but have no problem with being run by Brussels?

I think that as more and more people lose confidence in all the main political parties, smaller parties like UKIP, BNP and Greens etc will spring up and even if they do not win power, they will split the vote and therefore they do have an influence on the future of politics in this country.

Heaven forbid... People might even start voting for the candidate based on what they have to say for themselves... Rather than the colour of the rosette they're wearing...

You have to ask the question why the UKIP party never field candidates in Scottish elections [both Holyrood and Westminster]
Don't know if it is the same in Wales or NI.
If so they should change there name.

Because the Celtic/Pictish fringe regions have fared disproportionately well when the handouts have come down from Brussels. Who knows there may be some subsidies for wind farms?

Oops!!!!!!..........

The wind farm subsidies are even better than the upland farm grants.

I know a local farmer who gets nearly £100k a year in EU subsidy on his hill farm and now he wants £44k a year for EACH of the 33 turbines he is planning to build.
Yes that is right nearly £1.5 million pounds a year for sighting 33 giant turbines and running a few hundred sheep.
In the process totally ruining one of Scotland's most beautiful villages.

Sadly successive governments, north & south, have swallowed the global warming myth hook, line & sinker. Now we all pay the price through so called green taxes and, as you say, ludicrous subsidies for very inefficient sources of renewable energy.

Last week I looked at the massive Whitelees Windfarm at Eaglesham Moor. [That's the big hill south of Glasgow] They have 140 turbines with another 75 on the way. They say they can produce 322 megawats of electricty.
The day we visited was grey and breezy and all of the turbines were turning.
Tucked away in the visitor centre was a display that showed what the turbines were 'currently' producing.
It represented just over 12% of 322 megawatts.

Absolutely scandalous, we are being totally ripped off by bankers and developers and the process is linked in to 25 year cycles.

Getting back to the OP Question:

UKIP are a bit more than a one card trick party, they do hold a range of political objectives. They will continue to erode votes from the three big parties due to them having policies that a majority of UK voters agree with.

The majority of voters want a large reduction in immigration and for us to repatriate many sovereign powers from the EU, failing repatriation of these powers they would wish us to leave the club. To put these wishes down to the rantings of 'Daily Mail' readers is very naive.

I have doubts that UKIP have a strong enough grip on some of the other major threats facing the UK, but in saying that I dont think any of the other parties have either. Drastically cutting Public spending and letting people keep much more of the money they earn so they can stand on their own feet; is something that has to happen to stop us sliding into an expanded version of whats going on in Cyprus at the moment.

Since the Scottish question has arisen yet again, I cant wait for them to put up or clear off so we can get on with the job without all the divisive claptrap that has been going on for too long.

If/when it happens, Scotland will become the next Cyprus just without the sun. They'll REALLY have something to moan about then.

Right wing, populists somewhere between the Tory right and the BNP, its the “I’m not racist, but” party.

I’ve heard the phrase you can’t re-invent the wheel, pulling out of Europe would be trying to un-invent it. It’s a fact and with us to stay. Of course it needs reform, in particular CAP, but the real reason the right wing flag waving jingoists hate the EU, is because of the social reforms it has given workers.
